Why do people have to be mean? I just don't get it. I had to call the social security office today to ask a question, and the guy was so rude to me. I DID call him on it, and his tone softened a bit, but I just dont get it. It made me want to cry. Normally it wouldn't bother me, but he gave me news that was not what I wanted to here.
Isn't life hard enough without people being mean to each other?

I have dealt with SS for many many years with my 2 special needs girls and also with my Mom having it when she was alive. Most of the SS people I think are so used to dealing with people who are trying their best to scam the system they get really cynical very quickly in that job. When I needed info and wasn't assigned a specific person, if I got a 'nasty' person when I called, I would call again the next day..maybe several different days..in order to get a different person if possible. I definately remember one case worker..a male..who was soo nice and a breath of fresh air. He was very very helpful and did all he could to help me and the girls versus the others who pretty much dismissed me and even gave me false information. Think they just didn't want to really deal with me etc.
Same with the Medicaid workers. Just depends on who you get to speak to etc.
So my advice to you is to call back again tomorrow and see if you can speak to someone else and hopefully will get a 'good' rep and good advice etc. Good luck to you as I know it's extremely frustrating. the people that have been there longer are probably more jaded and cynical. Several years ago, when we were getting assistance for a while, we had this caseworker that actually scared me. She was so mean and nasty and suspicious, I was afraid that if I said anything that she didn't like, she'd fix the paperwork just to be spiteful.

I needed to ask a simple question so called the toll-free 800 #. Got a snarly a$$ who acted like he hated talking to people on the a phone. W/my hearing loss, it's not a picnic for me either so fine, find a different job then that doesn't entail dealing w/people, period, like hauling trash! A few days later, I called the regional/local office. Got a much nicer & more personable person. I let him know about my previous experience & also that I greatly appreciated his patience & niceness. I'm not sure but in my experiences, the ones at the regional/local offices are alot nicer to talk to, more helpful & just overall better to deal with. ;)
