1|1|Yes, you can go directly to Microsoft to download it free.|bluh2oeyes|bluh2oeyes@yahoo.com|09:11:19|06/29/2009|
Go directly to Microsoft.com and you can download it free right from MS. Don't trust any links your emailed unless you know they are directly from the source.

2|1|Yes, that's available. If you are running it on your home system...|whitmarg|robin@whitmannet.com|10:07:26|06/29/2009|
... probably not a problem. We are having issues with some business applications. I'm running it on one of my home PCs with no issues. 3|1|Tami I think I got a quick time player update to #8 but you have to pay for it?|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|10:17:19|06/29/2009|
can that be true?
I still rememer when they updated IE to take away our web (FREE) phone calls so I don't like updates, LOL 5|2|I don't believe you have to pay for most updates except......|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|10:47:16|06/29/2009|
If you have something like Norton or McAffee anti-virus programs which aren't free anti-virus programs like AVG or Avast. I believe there's a renewal fee on Norton & McAffee for their virus definitions & it's like $20-$30 a year to continue to receive their virus definition updates.
Quick Time Player is a media type player for videos, music, media clips, etc. so isn't an integral program you'd need, only an option if you don't have the free MS Media Player. My guess is it came w/your computer in the form of a trial version & yes, you'd likely have to pay to update to a newer version. I know Quick Time Player 7 is free to download so if you're happy using the QTP version you have, there would be no need to pay for the QTP 8 update, kwim? HTH. :)

4|1|It's coming from my Automatic Update notification thingy......|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|10:35:54|06/29/2009|
from MS Security Update Notification so isn't coming in an email or anything. I've just been putting it off til I could make sure it was legit, & safe. ;)
Thanks! Now I have peace of mind knowing I can download & install it. :) Never know for sure what's safe or not anymore....

6|2|I had major problems with IE8....|fiddlehead|fiddleheadstwo@myfairpoint.net|13:48:14|06/29/2009|
I received the notice in my updates and it was legit.
I went ahead and downloaded it, and had some major problems. IE8 conflicted with something on my computer and it took me three days to straighten it out. I posted to a forum associated with a computer newsletter that I subscribe to, and they walked me through my problems. I ended up deleting it.
On this computer forum, I learned that other people were having problems with the update and some feel you should wait a while to use IE8 until they get all the bugs out of it. Then, again, it might work very well for you.
HTH.

Nancy 8|3|Thanks! :) Maybe I'll wait a little longer & just keep cancelling the update. ;)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|17:32:24|06/29/2009|
I've waited awhile on other updates if I heard they were buggy at 1st so it won't hurt me to give this one more time either. ;)
