This is kind of silly but I think I might have gout in my big toe. My question is: if it is gout, would that cause my big toe to ache more when it gets cold? I'm asking cuz I've noticed when my feet get cold my toe seems to hurt more. It's kind of on the cool side here this morning & my toe was aching til I put some anklet socks on & now it feels better. I'm thinking maybe it's not gout but could be arthritis.....

1|1|I dont experience this myself, but some of my residents do.....they havent complained that the affected joint hurts worse when they are cold (and the elderly are almost always cold, lol), in fact they complain that the joint is extremely tender to touch, throbs, and feels warm or hot (not to touch, but inside)....but every one is different.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|11:20:38|06/27/2009|

. 3|1|Maybe it is arthritis then, but certainly strange to develop that in my big toe. LOL|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|09:49:08|06/28/2009|

Of all the crazy places! LOL
It's not red or tender to the touch & doesn't feel warm. The aching is inside in the area right next to the joint connecting it to my foot & feels kind of tight when I bend it either way. It's not every day it hurts but has been bothering me again the last few days. Maybe cuz of the humidity we'd been having? I can't put pressure/weight on that toe to get myself up off the floor as it really screams then, or if I bump it. Yowza! LOL

Be really careful about Gout. My mother thought she had gout because she had it before-But it went in both of her feet and the Dr gave her a presp over the phone and it wouldnt go away for weeks. She couldn't walk on them they were very swollen and red. It turned out that she didn't have gout but Kidney failure and she died 2 months later. 5|3|Here is a site for more info|cashcoll|cashcoll@yahoo.com|12:46:40|06/29/2009|

That's how DH gout started, from his Big Toe, when it does flare up, he can't even stand to have a sheet touch it. It is inflamation and it can be very painful.

in my big toes. You will know when you have gout...as stated in an earlier post, the toe becomes red, very warm to the touch and hurts like crap! The pain is continuous...and gawd forbid if you should lay something over it (like a sheet or blanket, a enclosed-toe shoe...anything really.

The doctor placed me on a prescription drug called Allopurinol. It relieves gout inflammation, and then keeps it from coming back. I take one tablet daily, and have not had gout in a few years now (since I've been taking the stuff).
