My stepdad has been in the hosp with leukemia for that last two weeks. He is doing well on his first round of chemo, and came home last Sunday. I have been keeping their girls, took them home on Thursday, and stayed until late Friday night because there were bad storms coming in, I wanted to get home. Well not long after I left, bad storms came in, and they got a flash flood, my moms basement that is packed full, flooded four feet. Even her deepfreeze,that she had just filled with meat, was dumped and floating on its side. Well right away the neighbor came over, and my nephews and one of their bio dads came over and started pumping the water out. In the middle of all this, my mom fell, and an ambulance had to take her to the hosp. Thanking God she did not break her knee, but tore the ligaments, and can not walk or drive. Her neighbor and his extended family, along with people from church have been helping my brother and his boys clean every thing out of the basement, the last two days, they have filled two dumpters. I can not get back to her house until Wed. It is such a blessing to know that all these people came to help them out.
I wish my elderly neighbor was still alive, to tell her about this. She always felt guilty because we would mow her yard, and take care of getting her to the store ect, and whatever else she needed. I was always telling her, not to feel bad, because I knew that God would provide for my mom in the same way when she needed it. Neat to see it happening!

I was actually sitting in traffic trying to make my way home while all this was going on. I had really debated on heading home and trying to beat rush hour, or staying and risking driving later in the storm. My husband kept saying he really thought I should head home. I know if I would have stayed I would have been down in that water trying to turn of the power ect. and no telling what would have happened. There were things sparking my mom said and water was pouring in like a dam had broke loose.

we have had water in our basement but not like that
we live in a low lying area and our lower yard floods and so does the branch that runs by the road way
so we have had flooding
but wow

and finished taking stuff out of her basement. My mom is just overwhelmed with getting so much help. She lost a lot, her furnace, water heater, deep freeze, washer and dryer, all have to be replaced. She lost her stock piles that were on shelves because the water went up over them. Then just all the stuff people save over the course of a life time, and plan to sort through some day.
At the same time she has gained so much. Just being able to see all these people step forward and help, and to know that she doesn't have to take care of everything on her own is big. She went to the doctor today, and her injuries are not as bad as they first thought. The doctor says she will be sore but should be able to walk and drive in a week or so. Just to take her splint off a little at a time. I am so thankful that it is not as bad as they first thought.

if there are metal items see if there is a place around that buys metal
they could be sold for a little money
we haul off junk (scrap metal )
and we have gotten some stinkeeeeeee stuff LOL

there were bed frames ect, just never thought of it. They have already filled and emptied the dumpster three times. Because of their situation, the furnace man came out already and is installing a new furnace today, so they should have air condition up and running some time today. We are under a heat avisory in our area. I am heading up there tomorrow, so I have been working on freezer meals to take with.
