My almost 4 year old male tabby named Tommy is very sick.
Since sunday he hasn't been eating and when he does drink water he throws that up and he's had diarrhea with blood in it. I did take him to the vet yesterday and spent 4 hours there with him and the vet thinks he has a virus - they wanted him to stay but unfortunately the cost ($1200 - $2000) was too expensive for me to have him stay so they gave him medicine and sent him home with me. This morning I chased him around the house to give him the medicine - he still won't take the pill - and now he's under the bed staying away from me. He's still not eating and drinking water. I even made the boiled chicken and rice like the vet said. I'm going to get him some canned cat food - the vet doesn't want him on cat food for 3 days but if I can get him to eat something, at this point I don't care what it is.
I have 7 cats total that range in age from 3 - 15 years old. They're all indoor cats. They've been pretty healthy for the most part.
Please send prayers for my cat. I know some people will say he's just a cat but he's one of my boys and I love him very much and I've been very upset since he's gotten sick.

When my kitty was very ill, I had to do that for him to keep him living. won't even do the pills - I was able to chase him down and give him the 2 liquid medicines today but no water or food - I tried the boiled chicken with rice - ham slices - 4 flavors of canned cat food - nada - I'll go out and get some baby food later and try that. I'm at a loss on what to do - unfortunately, I am laid off so the $$$ I spent yesterday (almost $400) is all I can spend on him.

When my fatboy was sick, we came home with a nutritional supplement (caled Nutrical) in a toothpaste-like tube. I think it was about $15 or so. You rub it on the gums and they lick it off. It was nasty, but it kept him fed until he could eat solid food again.

I think it is science diet with high nutrition. (about $1-2 per small can). You do it 1/2 can & 1/2 water and put it in the syring thing with the plunger. A few squirts should give him some strength. It is highly nutritious. I used this a few years ago with my cat. The vet was unsure what he had and doing tests. (It turned out he had a fatal heart condition...on a Sunday afternoon he made a "meowing" sound...I went to see what he was doing...I picked him up and he took his last breath...died of a massive heart attack....)
Anyway, the food really kept him going. He was sitting up and had strength until the end.
Maybe you can do this and keep him going while the virus works itself out of him.

so that she couldn't get away and i wouldn't get scratched up. i simply came up behind her with it and basically tossed it over her body and wrapped the towel around her as i picked her up REALLY FAST. it was hard but when it worked it worked. also, i used the thickest towel we had so her claws wouldn't penetrate it. good luck! and i hope your kitty gets better.

Also, when my kitty was terminal, the vet told me to give him some kitten vitamins. It's thicker than peanut butter and to wipe a daub about the size of a pea on the roof of his mouth. That was seriously calorie rich and helped when he wouldn't eat.

Last night he wanted nothing to do with any food - canned or baby food. This morning his eyes don't look at dark, his nose is a little cold and wet (it has been dry and warm) and just now he ate some hard food and it seems to be staying down. I don't know if he's drinking water but I figured eating the hard food is a step in the right direction.
I again want to thank everyone who has written and sent their thoughts and prayers and their suggestions. I know we're probably not completely out of the woods but I do feel more optimistic now then when I went to bed last night.

I don't know Tommy but with my 2 guys if I want to get them to drink water--all that I have to do is get a cup and sit it beside my drink and they come running everytime. They always want whatever I am having and they think "their" cup is mine and they are both quite happy stealing from what they think is mine. And meanwhile they drink lots of water. did drink some water from the tub faucet - I placed a small dish with water in the tub so I don't have to keep the faucet on and he's running around a little more and wants so much loving.

I go through times when my cat can't get enough food. Ihad her to the vet for her thyroid, but it wasn't that. There was nothing wrong. Now she's doing it again. Her appt. is for Sat. They did give me nutrients to put in her food. We'll see.

I have several cats and I love them all - I had to put my almost 16 year old to sleep last year - she was my first kitty and it broke my heart.
