I would go to the public library beforehand and find books identifying your state's special natural resources (state birds, state native flowers, trees that are native to your state, bugs/butterflies, etc etc--- you get the idea) and then check out a short book on each thing. Then while camping, read the book and then go out and find specimens of them. Leaf rubbings on the leaves, disposal camera for the bugs, birds, etc), then make a homemade scrapbook for these things.

We also always take cards to play, get a book if you need a reminder of all the card games there are; a kickball and football/ frisbe/ etc, and bubbles (walmart has these HUGE ones that any age would love. It is a longggggggggg skinny wand inside of the see thru container and makes the most huge bubbles I have ever seen.)

Have fun on your trip!
