My daughter is on WIC and someone has told her that she cannot use Nestle Good Start checks or any coupons for that matter with her checks from WIC. Is this true or was she misinformed?

Thanks for reading!
BrendaLee 1|1|why would she use coupons with a wic transaction? the wic pays the full amount or at least they do for my grandbaby|couponsnsamples|couponsnsamples@hotmail.com|21:56:13|06/02/2009|

I don't really know much about WIC and where they get their funding, etc., but my reasoning was that if I wasn't going to be using the coupons anyway, why not save WIC that $$ amount so that they have that much more funding (pretty flimsy premise since I have no idea if they operate from a limited budget, but I figured it couldn't hurt to use them).

I only ever used maybe one or two cereal coupons here and there, not formula checks, but no one ever said anything about it. Maybe the clerks didn't know any better either. Sorry, not much of an answer....lol.

lauren 4|1|hmmm.... why use coupons for WIC when the item is FREE anyways... I mean they won't give you the money back from using the coupon... jmo|slygirl217|lizzard41101@hotmail.com|23:03:57|06/02/2009|

I used to be on WIC and it is true that you can indeed use coupons to help offset the cost of the items for the program. The other thing is that since the checks are good for specific amounts, if the store is running a buy one get one free sale on anything (say cereal), they should let you "buy" the first item with the check and then the store sale would "give" you the second.

Kudos to your daughter for trying to save as much money as she can. That is commendable!
9|1|she can use them but I think they cause her to have to pay taxes|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|11:30:27|06/03/2009|

? 10|2|No Glennie.. she still doesn't have to pay a thing. So that my previous statement is clear the WIC Office here encourages coupon use... not the stores|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|12:36:45|06/03/2009|

She said that they prefer you use coupons and formula checks with your WIC checks because by you saving that money for them it assists them in helping more people that need the help. No, you do not pay taxes if you use coupons. She also told me that coupons can be used with Food Stamps, as well.

BrendaLee 12|2|ok thanks for info! it must be food stamps that cause a tax on coupon use|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|00:13:23|06/05/2009|
