because I love so many books and have different favorites at different times in my life. Your post got me thinking and my mind jumped to the Winnie the Pooh books which I have always loved. I realized that I had not read them to my middle daughter (we have this gorgeous hardback copy of the complete works of winnie the pooh that I read when I was pregnant with Dylan and then after he died the book just sat there. Sometimes one of us would pick it up and thumb through it, but mostly it just waited.) Anyhow when I realized that Mads has never heard the stories I realized that it is past time to get reading, so last night I curled up with both younger girls and we started reading. They can't wait for more tonight and I just have to thank you for posting this because I surely would have missed reading this to Mads if it were not for this post.

When I was a teen I loved the Outsiders by SE Hinton.

Laura Ingalls Wilder's books are also on the summer reading list for "Miss M" now that my thoughts are better organized. 8|2|I love the Outsiders and tried so hard to get my boys to read it but unlike their Mom it's easier to get them|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|18:06:40|06/01/2009|

Back then the bad boys always turned my head. Boy was I dumb! LOL! Remember a young Patrick Swayze was the older brother in the Outsiders too?

Mads is having trouble with reading and has a learning disability, so we are really amping up our reading efforts this summer. Dh is reading the Oz books to her and I am coming up with all of my favorites. I figure that some really intensive help will hopefully help her next year and it sure can't hurt. The tricky thing is finding books that G will sit through a little bit of. Pooh holds her attention, but I imagine we will be reading some that won't so hopefully she will at least stay quiet.

If anyone has not ever read the Oz books, they are also really great. Totally different from the movie of course and fun to read. There are about 9-10 of them that L Frank Baum wrote. And of you ever see any old copies of the original stories while you are yard sailing or in a thrift store, buy them up because they are valuable!

I LOVE Stephen King & Dean Koonz for fiction but also love Ann Rule & Ann Rice. I love anything True Crime but if there's been any books that really got to me it would be the heartwrenching true stories written by Dave Peltzer (A Child Call IT, The Lost Boy, The Privilege of Youth, A Man Named Dave, etc.) & Sharon Rocha (Laci Peterson's mom). Their stories of strength & courage are just amazing!

Have you read anything by Jane Kirkpatrick? She wrote this series of books about women on the Oregon trail that are just incredible. It is fiction, but she just makes it all come alive. I'm trying to remember titles and one was "No Eye can See", "All Together in One Place" and there are others. Anyway I highly recommend them to anyone who likes Oke, because I am confident you will like Kirkpatrick as well. 18|1|the canadian west series by janet oke and i love all the nick bantock books|crazymomx2|crazymomx3girls@hotmail.com|09:56:34|06/03/2009|
