I never used paypal before and it says I need to verified my paypal account with a bank account. How safe is it? I don't want some hacker taking all my money in the bank. How does it work? Paypal told me they have me covered but have not heard from them unless I call them. No satisfaction they even sent an email to the hackers thinking it was me after I called and let them know about the situation.

I used to have my pp linked to the bank but then I'd get random charges from Paypal themselves, for small amounts like 30-40 dollars, and then I'd call Paypal and they'd say they didn't know where they came from and removed them. I don't trust that. So I took my bank account off the paypal. you accept paypal from someone and then it is reversed for whatever reason (someone disputes the transaction, or if it was an unauthorized transaction on the other person's part). Paypal can go into your bank account and take the amount in question IF you don't have the amount in existing paypal funds. They give you no warning when they do this, so if you don't have a cushion of money in your bank account, you could end up bouncing any bills that you've paid that haven't cleared.
This is allowed per their user agreement that you agree to when you sign up. I know this from dealings in ebay, but I'm pretty sure that the process is the same even for non-ebay transactions.
If you're a small time trader on here, it's very unlikely you'd ever run into a problem. I would do as others have suggested - attach it to an account that you keep a bare minimum of money in, one that isn't used for your regular bills.
