ok, been almost non-stop menstruation almost since Dashi was born. In the past three years it's been months at a time where I bleed through a super tampon and a pad within a half hour; in the past month I have had to come home and change my clothes because in the car going somewhere my whole situation just became a mess.

In november I was given depo provera (did not affect the bleeding at all, increased nightsweats)
had ultrasound (intrauterine) which found one or more fibroids
3 months later I got estrogen (no affect except to increase night sweats and insomnia, also hair loss!!!!!)
for two months I tried tri-phasil birth control pill, the first month no affect, but this past month it worked but my blood pressure was sky high and I had to quit.

Last week the dr (a new one, no more depo or estrogen for me lol) told me that at my age (50) they won't remove the fibroids. Has anyone else been told this?
I have to go in next week for endometrial biopsy and then if all is ok get a merena (spelling?) IUD put in to thin the lining and prevent the kind of bleeding I have been having.

If that fails, it will be a hysterectomy.

I just need some input or advice or just to hear other people's experiences if you don't mind sharing. I can't help but think that if they would just take these fibroids out my life would improve by 1,000 percent, kwim? Is there any way I could persuade them to try this? OR is what was suggested to me the medical 'way to go'?

thank you so much!

(also if the fibroinds come out will my hair stop falling out?) 1|1|Glennie, I dont have any advice or info as GYN is not my area of practice, but I do wish you the best in finding the best solution to your problem.....I have troubles like yours, but not nearly as severe....I am 41. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:26:55|05/09/2009|

I had fibroids and had the surgery to have them removed. It lightened my period for about 6 months. Then they started growing back. I'm 44. If I were you I would ask another Dr. their opinion. I didn't have any hair loss.

Thanks!

and just getting worse each month. The doctor believes I have adenomyosis, which causes an enlarged and thickened uterus, and a lot of pain ect. I was always anemic. The doctor kept advising me to have a hysterectomy, but I talked him into trying prometrium. I take it twelve days out of the month and it as worked wonders for me. My husband calls it my happy pill, it has just made such a difference. I have also used the progestrone cream. There are books out by a doctor Lee, that talks about getting your hormones in balance naturaly, I found his readings very helpful.

feel like crying! If I spend time with Dashi playing like I want to (LOL) I really pay a high price...
this does not seem right to me... 7|3|look into a uterine ablation before a hyster|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|21:46:13|05/11/2009|

they ablate the uterine arteries and it cuts off the blood supply to the fibroids and therfore decreases the bleeding.

another option may be Augestrin (sp??)you take it twice a day for the first few days, then once a day for 28 days.definitely works!! there are side effects though so make sure you read them before deciding to take.

there is another med Lupron injection. but it causes hot flashes, and moodiness (big time!!) they usually give it to women with endometriosis that are trying to get pregnant to thin out the endomentrium.

hope the info helps!
