I'm not a smoker and nobody around me smokes so I never have reason to buy cigarettes...so it came as a MAJOR shock to me while standing near the restrooms at a supermarket last night (waiting for my child in the restroom) that I noticed the locked cigarette cases with packs of cigarettes at $8.39 a PACK! and cartons of cigarettes for over $100!!!! I nearly fainted!!!!!!!!! I remember working at the local drugstore when I was a teenager and a carton of cigarettes cost about $30 (with tax) and I thought THAT was expensive...that was about 16 years ago....I'm sorry but that's RIDICULOUS...I know we've had the rise of cigarettes conversation on here in the past so I'm not trying to beat a dead horse,,,It was just the first time I actually noticed the cost of cigarettes...that's just insane....my mother used to smoke about 2 packs a day (that would have easily been over on hundred dollars a week)...Yikes! 1|1|oops should say cigarettes|kellysp6637|frugalk76@aol.com|23:15:43|05/08/2009|
:) 2|1|I do smoke (I know, I should know better being a nurse)....I started when I was 17 and cigs were 90cents a pack....they are about $3.40 a pack here for some brands (Camel, Doral, etc)....I have been getting camels for $2.97 a pack when I buy a carton, but yes, the cost is insane....it depends on where you live on how much cigs cost...state taxes vary, and it seems that some larger cities (like NY) have additional taxes because cigs there are astronomical.
