"Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy." 12|6|Found 5 in my back yard tonight|homerlisa|tls899@verizon.net|20:30:13|04/29/2009|
My husband and I went looking this last weekend,it was an unsucessful hunt. Tonight I found 5 in my back yard.
Last year we were able to find about 20 total and this year we are really hunting more often in different locations.
I can not believe what people pay for these. I am not hunting for them to sell- or I never thought of that LOL.
13|5|Nice yellow sponge type he has there! Goes for $25-$30 here |Skaytes|skaytez@gmail.com|06:52:53|04/30/2009|
last year..might be higher this year. People from the Chicago area come down here and go crazy over them so that drives the price way up.
I grew up mushroom hunting with my parents. Only thing I hate about it are the ticks, mosquitoes and snakes in the woods. Get rid of them and I would be 'good to go' hunting! lol
We usually find several in our yard here each year but am sure if I got ambitous and went hunting in our pasture/woods would find more.
We always liked the yellow and grey sponges (your pic is a yellow sponge)and the spear heads. They look exactly like it sounds. Tops look like a spear head. Now hubby prefers sheeps head mushrooms..they grow on sides of certain usually dead trees in the woods. Personal preference I guess but sponges are my favorite. LOVE them fried! We always washed them off, split in half and soak in salt water overnight or few a few hours minimum..kills the tiny bugs in them which you don't see till they die in the salt water :)..then rinse off, dip in flour w/ salt and pepper and fry them up. Gotta eat 'em hot though! Yuuuummmm-O!! makes my mouth water just thinking of them!!
