I decided to tackle a bunch of painting around the house this year, determined to catch spring before it segues into hot summer days. Finances are, and have been, extremely tight at our house, so of course I'd need to do everything myself.

I painted the steps into the basement that were showing years of dirt and wear. I was so pleased, I kept opening the basement door just to look at the steps...lol.

So next I decided to tackle painting the outside of the basement garage door. It's been peeling a bit, but mostly just looking dirty and tired. By the way, this garage door has an automatic opener. I painted the garage door with about 3 coats as I forgot to use a primer. After the paint dried, I went to open the garage. The door opener strained and creaked, and the big chain snapped and went limp! I'm assuming that I wasn't careful enough painting the little seams in the door, and they got painted shut, creating too much of a strain on the opener.

So much for trying to save money! Now it will probably cost close to $100 to replace the chain. Well, lesson learned at least.
