BUT, you may want to ask around to see what kind of reception you'd get. When we moved to VA, we went with Cingular (now AT&T) because they had the best reception here in the sticks ;)

We got a plan with Boost and it's $50 a month unlimited minutes, texts etc. So you don't have to wait for a certain time to call someone for the free minute to start, Boost is free minutes all the time. I think it's a great deal for $50 plus if anyone else you know has a Boost phone, you can talk to them on the built in walkie talkie. It's great :) Rebekka

I usually get mine the first of the year you can get 600 minutes and a years worth of service for $99.99 and tax I think its 400 mintue and they always have a promotion for 200 free, I like it no monthly bills and I don't use my phone very often it works out great for me you can buy the phones at walmart or even the family dollar has them you can buy your mintues at stores or on line, hth Linda

I would never recommend tracfone to anyone. Someone gave us one and it worked fine, but then when it eventually died and we bought a new one, it was really cheaply made and wouldn't work in our area (even though the first phone HAD worked in our area). Customer service was ridiculous - at one point, they told us to drive into town and look for a cellular tower and get close to it to see if the problem was the phone or the reception!

After they replaced 3 sim cards and we went through numerous phone calls, they REFUSED to refund our money for the phone because they said we hadn't bought the phone, we had bought the minutes and it clearly stated that minutes are nonrefundable. Oy!

Anyways, I bought a motorola at radio shack. I think it was on sale for like $9.99 plus you got a free 90 minute card with the phone. You can buy cards with minutes at many different stores - some cards are good for 2 months, some are good for up to a year. The phone's easy to use, it's easy to refill with minutes, and I've never had a problem with reception.

Good luck!

But if the receiver is using a cellphone, don't they usually get charged minutes by their provider? IDK, I never really thought about it.
