I don't think I have any outstanding trades, but I wanted to post to let people know that I can still be e-mailed if you need me. I recently had LASIK, baseball season, softball season, tax time--so much has kept me busy and off the boards. I will probably be around more now that things are getting into a rhythm, but just wanted to post to let people know why I've been MIA lately.

I went from 20/400 to 20/15 and love it. I wished I would have done it sooner. I was near sighted and has a stigmatism too. If you are thinking about doing it and have questions let me know.

They want you to have a stable prescription, which didn't happen for me until I was 34, but I didn't have the money then. I'm 38 now, and so far it's been really good. I'm in week 3 or so, and still have some scratchiness (from the healing, I'm told this is normal), and occasionally my eyes have trouble focusing or will blurr--I usually find this happens either after I've been staring at the computer screen or been in an indoor place with recirculated air. I just use my artificial tears they gave me and it clears back up. I have not had any of the bad side effects that some people talk about, like halos, starbursts, etc. My vision is still fluctuating--it was 20/15 & 20/25 the day after surgery, and a week later it was 20/30 & 20/25, then yesterday it was 20/20 in both. I may end up with a small prescription in the end, but DMV requires 20/40 or better, so as long as I am below that I won't need them to drive. Right now, I don't think I will need them at all--it's looking good!

The surgery itself was very quick. They have you take a Valium when you get there, then about a half hour later they take you back, put numbing drops in your eyes, put a speculum (for lack of a better word) in to keep your eye open, then cut the flap. It did not hurt at all. It's a little freaky to see your vision go blurry as the flap is pulled back, but my vision was blurry anyway, so it didn't make much of a difference. I looked at the little light, and it was like 31 seconds for one eye, and 40 for the other--really quick. The whole thing took less time than it did for the Valium to kick in. My husband was able to watch from a screen outside the room that was hooked up to the laser, so he had the view of looking down on my eyeball--he said it was neat to watch. Afterwards, 4 different kinds of drops for a week, then artificial tears for dryness/irritation. That should also eventually get better.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I was terrified at the thought originally--I mean, it's your EYES we are talking about, right? But after the surgery, I was like "what was I scared of?" Anyway, the vision change is pretty immediate, you can see better right after the surgery. You go home, take a nap, then wake up and can see--really wild. Good luck to you in whatever you decide!
