a larger tank....I didn't really want to spend anymore on this set up...since the supplies she had pointed out I needed plus the gecko was already up to $106....a total different era from when my brothers had chameleons....they used an old fish tank, old screen wire they shaped to form a cover some dirt from outside and caught one...free all the way.....I had hoped I could do something like that.....but when I asked about lizards that don't need heat lamps, etc...I was told they don't sell that kind of stuff..... 3|2|info|Sockrgrl33|kbess@cox.net|01:44:56|04/12/2009|

We hardly use our heat mat. It does not get that cold here. But you can go on vacation and leave the thing on while you are away and don't have anything to worry about. A 5 gallon tank is plenty for a baby. Our's is big and I doubt we would get anything bigger than our 10 gallon. Maybe some day just for looks but they really don't need it. 5|3|That's awesome to know...I still have my receipt...so I think|kellysp6637|frugalk76@aol.com|01:46:58|04/12/2009|

I'll bring it back because between the light bulb and the lamp set up...it was about $30 so maybe I can trade it in for a heat mat if they have one...thank you so much for your advice....I really do appreciate it!!!!!!!

BTW...how big is yours now?????? 4|2|just curious what supplies did she have you buy?|Sockrgrl33|kbess@cox.net|01:46:40|04/12/2009|

You may not need all of it, they don't need much. All we have in ours is sand, a couple of caves and pieces of wood for it to hide under, the heat pad and a water bowl. Oh we have a couple of decorations in there to, but not a ton. Every few months we will rotate things so maybe he feels like he is in a different environment :) 6|3|Supplies:|kellysp6637|frugalk76@aol.com|01:49:21|04/12/2009|

I bought the 5 gallon tank with the lock screen cover
5 lb bag of lizard sand
2 bowls (one for water and the other for food) but I think I may take the food one out since it seems to take up alot of room and just leave the water one in there...since the critters don't stay in the food bowl anyway.
1 wooden log cave for it to hide under
1 heat lamp
1 heat light bulb
plus the gecko

wow....it added up quick! 7|4|:)|Sockrgrl33|kbess@cox.net|01:58:58|04/12/2009|

yes I would return the heat lamp. Our's is probably about 8 inches now, he is full grown. We used to feed him meal worms when he was a baby. But now all we feed him is crickets. I would take the food bowl back because the crickets will never stay in there :). you may find a heat mat at the pet store. I like the t rex cobra brand. I would think the heat lamp would heat up the whole 5 gallon tank which would probably get too hot for the little guy. By the way you will be able to tell when it gets bigger if it is a boy or a girl :)
