24 0|0|Going to Hawaii in 2 weeks for VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!|debmac2|mcsport6@comcast.net|14:10:47|04/05/2009|
Posted on Apr-05-09 at 02:10 PM (Eastern) by 166.68.134.175

It is official ..... going to Hawaii on April 21st for 2 weeks vacation in Oahu!!!! Just hubby and I ... our 25th wedding anniversary is April 29th, and we will be renewing our vows right on Waikiki Beach .... I totally cannot wait!!
This has been a terrible year for us .... lost my father on January 13th, and then my brother in law who was visiting us from Texas dropped dead of a heart attack while here 3 weeks ago .... so this year has been lousy .... Looking for some Sun and LOTS OF FUN!!!!

Anyone been there that can offer some advice? Tips on saving money, where to eat, ways to save money???

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Debbie 1|1|No advice since I've never been to Hawaii, but I wanted to wish you a wonderful trip and congratulations on your 25th Anniversary! :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|18:04:15|04/05/2009|

Just this time last year I was all set to go there it was an AMAZING 2 weeks of my life.

If you visit Pearl Harbor make sure you get there early, since only limited ammount of people go in per day but it is so worth it to see, and its free entrance.

If you climb Diamond Head take comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and DON'T forget water I saw many poor people with no water and its a long climb up and there are no places to get water once you start going up-- so beware.

The same applies if you visit any of their beautiful waterfalls

Waikaki beach is really pretty you will like it,,

Also you will find many ABC stores where you can buy some supplies BUT if you can go stock up at Walmart it is cheaper, My DH and I stocked up on bottled water, snacks, and drinks to have handy for the 2 weeks we were there..

Overall have the time of your life, it is the most wonderful feeling to be in a place that is paradise on earth 12|1|Going to Hawaii was the best vacation I ever had.|Arizona|vbj48@cox.net|21:41:13|04/06/2009|

There are ABC stores on almost every corner. Go in and inquire about getting a week long (or longer) bus pass. They call their bus system "THE BUS" and the drivers are EXTREMELY friendly and will help tourists beyond your expectations. So skip the taxis and just use the THE BUS.

Take a tour around the island on the Bus. Just use their schedule or have the hotel people show you on the schedule. You may also take the Bus to the Polynesian Culture Center (which I TOTALLY SUGGEST but tix are kind of pricy. If you take the Bus, check the schedule bc they used to not have a bus there as late as the show. You may want to rent a car if you want to do the late night show...it is marvelous and worth it.

You can schedule a visit to Pearl Harbor and go to the Stadium Flea Market all in one day. It was Wednesdays and Saturdays, and literally both are within walking distance to one another. I would recommend doing both.

Most Waikiki restarants won't take coupons, but ask.

Walmart is the best for buying food and STUFF; but the ABC stores are decent too. Check the paper as well for sales at Longs Pharmacy...they carry some groceries there and have good sales.

Not sure if Dole is still there since they closed the farms but if they are, that is interesting and do the Maze...that was fun.

Def see the aquarium right off Waikiki Beach.

Lots of homeless and transients on the beach so be careful at night; also if you are travelling downtown at night kind of be careful too. Most of the homeless are harmless I am sure, but they do have some alcohol/ drug problems there like everywhere so better safe than sorry.

Don't be afraid to ask Hotel/ store/ bus drivers, etc for help on directions, recommendations, etc.

Definately visit Hanauma Bay. Even if you do not snorkel, you'll see the fish right there and it is a great beach...although a fair walk. They do have the golf carts for the people who need them =)

We visited Dog, the Bounty Hunter's bailbond store and they were very rude and snotty. Their souvenier shop was very expensive but my best friend's hubby LOVES DOG so we had to go but don't make a special trip if you are not into DOG.

That is all I can think of. I know you will have a TON of fun there (how can you not, it is paradise after all !)

PS Roberts Malasadas is a good place to stop if you rent a car and go early to the Culture Center...YUMMY! It is right on the way- right by the overpasses...You may drive by it but well worth going back unless you are in a hurry bc they are kind of slow and ususally busy.

I lived on Oaahu for four years and it is truly beautiful, if you are in to history the pearl harbor tour is great and also the cross memorial where the Japanese flew through when they atacked pearl harbor. The punchbowl, waimea falls, northshore tour, dole pineapple plantation, and of course waikiki,,,it is all beautiful I hope you enjoy. 24|1|I remember the flowers and the rainbows...|suzhappy|suzhappy@yahoo.com|10:58:08|04/11/2009|

We lived on Oahu for 4 years also in Navy Base Housing and I remember waking up to the smell of my Plumeria bush outside my window every morning and almost every day there is a rainbow there...just gorgeous but yes very expensive. When you get off the plane you will be greeted with a Lei and go on a Wiki Wiki Bus to the main terminal. Our favorite time of year there was Christmas because Santa wears shorts, sunglasses and flip flops :) Our 2 daughters went to school there and they had fun but unfortunately did not learn alot. Be sure to get a shave ice with ice cream at the bottom and get a great tan!!

Please leave me feedback if we have had a favorable trade and I will do the same for you!
