I want to stain my cupboard doors a blonde or light brown to lighten them up in my kitchen. They're currently stained kind of a dark brown, as in the color of brown panelling. :( My question is, do I need to strip off the current dark brown 1st or can I just coat over them w/polyurethane & then use the blonde/light brown stain?
I plan to start small & easy w/just the doors 1st & if all goes well (LOL), then I'll proceed to do the all the cupboards in their entirety.
Thanks for any help. :)

If you just wanted to paint them you could just sand and paint.
