My daughter is 9 yrs old, we have two neighbors each with a 9 year old girl as well, unfortunatley no matter what these kids can not just play nice with each other, someone always comes home upset or crying. They are all very different personality wise but there has to be a way to have peace between them as I think the three of them could all be very close. Its a shame that they have each other so close by but can't get along. Tonight I talked to the one mom who I am friends with and said we need to do something about this and suggested the 4 of use (us two moms and our daughters) get together and talk with the girls, only thing is I have no idea what to say to the girls. I tried on my own tonight explaining that growing up I had a best friend who lived across the street and we are still the best of friends and how nice it is to always have someone and someone that lives so close. It worked for about a minute.
I need ideas and suggestions for our meeting with the girls, I don't want to force them to be friends but I think they can be very good friends. Sometimes I think its when there are 3 of them its a royal pain, but with only two its much better but I don't want anyone excluded so they need to work together.

I was one year older than the other two....now, any two of us could be together and have no problems, but mix that third one in there and someone got upset or went home mad....I just think it's how girls are 'programmed'....boys dont seem to have that problem, they can be in groups of 3 or more with no problems.
I dont know that there is anything you can do to change it, but if you wanted to try, I think sitting the girls down with the moms is a start....have them start out by telling you for themselves why all three of them seem to have trouble being together. Maybe if they have to tell you out loud, they'll realize how silly their reasons may be.

if there is a way they could rotate playing together, it might work better than forcing the three. I have this issue with my daughter 11 and my moms girls 8 and 9. I have decided when we are together to let two of them go off and play alone, and bring the other one in on whatever the adult ladies are doing at the time, and then switch. It is crying or fighting every time they are together.

there were four of us girls living within a one square block area that were friends. Three of us were the same age and grade and the other was one year and grade younger. All four of us could not get along for very long at a time. It was constantly two against two or three against one. Someone was always mad at someone else. We were very cruel and mean to each other. This went on for about 15 years. We are all in our forties now and I still consider them three of my lifelong dearest friends. Life took over and we do not see each other often, I know if I ever needed anyone, I would have three people to go to. I love them all dearly. I have that problem with only two believe it or not, and I don't get it. My daughter has a neighbor same age, grade and school. They have problems getting along when they get together, there is always jelousy (sp?). They cannot decide what to play, always one doesn't agree, they talk rude to each other sometimes and the neighbor friend sometime has an attitude of not wanting to talk or doesn't want to answer when my daughter asks her about something new she has and she doesn't want to tell her or let her see it. It's so crazy it causes me a lot of stress when they are together at my house, it's like one day they are fine another they are bored.
