I am so excited this country girl is going to New York this coming Sept. I have never been there, but have always wanted to go. A group of us are going from work and I am so excited. Now here's the question. I need to find out what attractions should we make a point to see, where are good places to eat. Does anyone have any coupons (like ones from the entertainment books for bogo free meals)or any other good discounts. We are staying in hotel on Fifth Ave.
I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks so much Robin 1|1|I'm from NY e-mail me if you need any info at all !|spilleliz|spilleliz@gmail.com|11:19:11|03/21/2009|

I actually purchased this after you told me about it. I believe it might help... 5|1|Hi I work in the city and live in Queens. :) I don't have the entertainment book|jilda|vze4gj4m@verizon.net|19:21:29|03/22/2009|

though. But I can give you a list of things to see. :)

Free things..that are just awesome:
Window Shopping on Fifth avenue.
Browsing in FAO schwartz..so what if you aren't going with kids. :)
Walking through Central Park ..during the day.
Walking around Times Square..it's like a mini Las Vegas at night. :)
Toys R Us in Times Square..(riding a really cool ferris wheel in the store...You have to pay but it goes to charity.
Seeing and going up the Empire State Building

On wednesdays and Sundays you can see a broadway matinee... you can maybe get 1/2 price tickets on 47th and Broadway at the Tickets booth. You can also get 1/2 price tickets for evening shows..any night of the week.
You can go to the NBC studios and pay for a studio tour

Go to the village..downtown and just walk around..the stores are really different and the crowds are different too.

There are 5 Boroughs in NYC- Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island,& Manhatten The main attractions are in Manhatten. Depending on how long you are staying probably best to stay in Manhatten there is enough to see there I grew up in the Bronx and it really isn't much there to see other than maybe the Bronx zoo and Botanical Gardens and the area is not great . Queens is pretty close to Manhatten depending on which part-just a few subway stops away

Though I live outside of San Francisco most of the time now.

Queens is where the airports are. If you're with just a couple of people and landing at JFK, you can take the air train to any part of Manhattan for $7/person. If you're with at least 4 people splitting one cab (there's a flat rate to any part of Manhattan) would make sense because it's much less hassle. Public transit from LGA is a little tricky, but can be managed.

If you need transit information, call the New York City help line before you leave. From the city it's 311 but outside it's 212.NEW.YORK and push the buttons for transit information. Ask for subway and bus maps--they may be able to send them to you, otherwise, I can do that, contact me in late April, after my next visit. If anyone you know has auto club membership you may be able to get tour and coupon books, too.

You may have heard otherwise but most people in New York are really happy to help visitors.

Chinatown is in lower Manhattan--near Canal Street. It's a nice walk from Ground Zero/Brooklyn Bridge/Staten Island Ferry and as you pass Wall Street you may want to give the finger to certain corporate headquarters.

New York lacks public bathrooms; if you're in a random part of town and need to find one, try a hospital if there is one nearby.
