8 0|0|Has anyone ever had a fundraiser from the school, where they had to sell all the raffle tickets, they received. My daughters school sent home 10 tickets, at $10.00 a peace. There are 31 prizes, but only a couple of things, we would actually want to win. Also a lot of prizes, are for tickets to parks all over the country. So you have to pay air fare, and hotel fare, to use them. Just fustrated. hoping we get people to purchase them, because we sure can not afford, to by them ourselves. i took however many tickets i wanted and sent the rest back into the school with the money for the tickets i bought your not obligated to sell these i mean if you want to buy a few then buy what you want and send the rest back into school. i'm sure there are alot of kids going to be bringing the tickets back in not sold especially the way money is right now for everyone.

I work at a school and I know the fundraisers they have been trying to do havent been doing all that great.

I get SO frustrated with my children's school fundraisers.....there is only one fundraiser that I like and that is the Otis Spunkmieir Cookie Dough Fundraiser...because atleast I use it....

The candle fundraisers frustrate me,,,because there is NOOOOOO WAY I will pay $10 or more for a CANDLE!!!! Yikes!
The gift wrap fundraisers frustrate me, because I refuse to pay so much money for gift wrap when I can stock up on it at Christmas time for .10 roll after Christmas and pick up cute birthday wrap for $1.00 at my local Christmas Tree Shop
I don't mind the magazine fundraisers so much, because I generally will order one or two magazines....

I wish they did more raffle type fundraisers with movie tickets, or dinner gift certificates for local restaurants...I would be much more willing to purchase a raffle ticket for $2 or $3.00 for a chance to win a prize...atleast they would be something I would use and frankly I think the schools would make more because even with the economy tanking,,,I still see TONS of people at my local convenient stores dropping money down for scratch tickets....so if they charged $2 to $3.00 a raffle ticket for a chance to win a basket prize with movie tickets or something like that donated from local restaurants, theatres, etc...they would make out much better...I know I would drop $10- $15 on tickets to win a prize like that....

Or maybe even a gift card to a local grocery or drug store....I'd DEFINATELY drop some money on a chance to win something like that....

I've made these suggestions in the past,,,but am always met with the same response of "we always do candle sales, yada yada yada"...hate to break the news to the fundraising people...but when the economy is tanking and people can barely afford to gas up their cars...they are NOT going to pay $10+ for a pear smelling candle....it's time to think outside the box and rationalize what people can afford and what they will be willing to part with their money for...and frankly...a candle or gift wrap just doesn't do it for me.

really tries to keep all the prizes from local places. There are a few BIG ones but even then we make a super prize. Last year it was a VIP pack to Shedd aquarium in Chicago, lunch at Navy Pier, and we also got discount train tickets. It was a huge hit! We also do a basket of "raining day" stuff. coloring books, stickers, easy recipies with cookie cutters and sprinkles, good books.

Don't feel pressured to buy any tickets. If it's not worth it then just let it go. 4|1|my child's school is doing an animalland fundraiser for $30!|aliciamk|ohiogirl279@yahoo.com|22:56:16|03/17/2009|

its just like build a bear.i feel pressured to do this one because the kids are doing it during school hours and i feel like if i don't pay for it she'll feel left out.i quit asking family to buy stuff because they always say no and we have tons of kids in the family plus noone can afford the stuff anyways.i have made the same suggestions and always get the same answer we'll look into it which means no.the only thing i ever buy is the all you magazine.when they do book fairs i give my kid 5 bucks a piece each day it is there.i wish my kids school would do the coupon book fundraisers, raffle tickets, bake sale,or sale candy. 5|1|We homeschool, so we don't have this problem, but I think fundraisers although help the school, they are too competitive for some kids (((HUGS)))|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|23:25:45|03/17/2009|

6|1|This fund raiser has a short turn around time. Just two weeks. My husband and I went through expenses, and were able to find 10.00 each week. So we are buying two tickets, and will ask around for the rest. But have decided that if we, can not sell all ten(and I am sure we will not), that we will send them back, with a letter urging the school, not to put so much pressure on selling these tickets the next time, because not every family can afford, such a large donation. It does make me mad. The PTO members that organized this fundraiser, were a hand full of families, that are in a big clique, and well off. THey also donated most of the prizes themselves. I am with Kelly in that, if the prizes made more sense for the average struggling family, like entertainment packs, video rentals, grocery gift cards. Not only would the tickets prices be lower, but more people could afford to buy them(and want to), and also could have contributed to the raffle prizes to begin with. Thank you for all of your thoughts. Donna|dlpavitt|dlpavitt@att.net|03:37:07|03/18/2009|

There is a bi-annual tricky tray-- $50 for dinner-- then more for the tricky tray tickets. HUGE prizes and a load of them-the school makes $20,000. I went one year but not this year. 8|1|i never let my kids sale anything i think the items in the catolags are over priced and you get junk, cookiedough went to $13 a tub i could make it for $3|crazymomx2|crazymomx3girls@hotmail.com|08:58:26|03/18/2009|
