I'm going thru similar right now so I totally sympathize & understand what you're going thru. ;) I've been sick w/a nasty cough, etc. for the past several days & altho I've lit the cigs. & puffed on them, I haven't inhaled any of the smoke, lest I burn my lungs. It didn't really bother me too much not to inhale til yesterday when I finally started to feel a little better from the coughing & other crud. Now, my body (or at least my mind & hands) is noticing it more that I'm not getting that nicotine "fix" so I'm feeling kind of restless & a little shaky, not to mention some perspiring (could also be attributed to the cold/cough). LOL Before I moved here last May, I was a pack a day + smoker easy but since then, I've cut way back & haven't smoked at all in this house. I'd been down to smoking maybe 5-6 cigs. a day, going outside & taking a couple puffs, put it out & go out again later for a couple puffs, etc., so I think it's helped that I'd cut back as I was slowly getting my body used to less & less nicotine. It's cold outside here in winter so it's easy not to want to stand outside & freeze w/a cig. for very long. LOL And I've been trying to change around what I do during the times/triggers of when I'd most want to smoke - stress/upset, after eating, when I 1st wake up in the morning, w/my coffee, while talking on the phone, etc. - finding other things to do during those times/triggers. I think it's also helped the last several days that I'd been regularly sucking on honey/lemon cough drops as the strong menthol in the cough drops seems to have been replacing the "hot" feel/taste of smoke in my mouth (I smoke Marlboro Lights so non-menthol), or at least it's dulled my tastebuds. LOL I have a pack that I'd opened last Fri. & there's still 6 cigs. left in it. For me, that's a LONG time for 1 pack to last. LOL But I'm not putting pressure on myself or making any promises cuz I've come this far, all by myself at my own pace & of my own choosing, & it's all been maybe baby steps but it's positive baby steps. :)
Don't put pressure on yourself or feel bad if you slip & take a puff or 2. Give yourself plenty of time as that helps you find what works best for YOU for the triggers. Some people claim that selecting a "quit date" works. I've decided that puts pressure on me so I'm not going to pick a "quit date" but I know there's a day coming real soon that I'll simply decide that's it, I don't want or need it at all anymore. You will too! :)

Think Spring!

i appreciate all the trades made in the past.

THANKS!! 7|1|Something thathelped me. I brushed my teeth, every time, I had the urge, to smoke, and then went for a quick ten minute walk(if you can), but it helped me, because I didn't want to smoke, with a clean mouth, and didn't want to eat either. More bang, for your strategy. I have been smoke free for 13 years. I am cheering for you. I know it is hard. But, it is so worth it. Your kids will LOVE you for it, I promise. It is soooo hard, I know, but you are doing great! If you set yourself up to not smoke, like leaving your purse at home, etc you will be fine :) Kudos for doing this now, as you are going to have a new lease on life in just a few weeks and could enjoy this Spring more than past years as a smoker... I quit 5 or 6 years ago for my puppy; now am a mom to two toddlers and am so glad that I can fill my lungs with fresh air without hacking!

Hang in there, you can do this!!!! 10|1|You can do it girlie (((HUGS)))~*~|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|13:47:36|03/12/2009|
