Does anyone know if there is an OTC product that I can buy to help with bleeding gums? They don't bleed a lot and they don't bleed every time I brush, but it does bother me.

I get very regular dental care but have always had a problem with my gums bleeding. Twice a day I use a WaterPik, a RotoDent toothbrush without toothpaste, my regular toothbrush with toothpaste, floss and Listerine. I just don't know what more I can do :(

My dentist says that the medicines I take affect my gums so there's not much I can do about it.
1|1|you really need a fluoride rinse...|noway|stormybizzles@yahoo.com|07:50:52|03/10/2009|

Buy one of those high % fluoride rinses, they even have generic ones at Walmart. The kind that tells you not to drink water or rinse or eat for 30 min. after using. That will actually help a great deal.

Best of luck to you! 2|2|yes it's your meds|angNC|memawang@embarqmail.com|10:51:45|03/10/2009|

I sent you an email asking for more help :)

I don't see on the mouthwash bottles where it indicates the fluoride content.

My anti-seizure meds caused my gums to bleed. My Dad was an old timer druggist and told me to take zinc. I don't recall what it's purpose......it's been toooooo tooooo many years. A search on the internet may explain why. HTH 4|1|cye|melpaul|Melpaul199@aol.com|21:22:02|03/11/2009|

what is brand name of a % fluoride content mouthwash? I don't see anything on mouthwash bottles that indicates the fluoride content? 8|2|info inside..|noway|stormybizzles@yahoo.com|09:26:47|03/12/2009|

Hello. Basically, the brand doesn't matter but when you go to the store, buy Act or something similar containing no alcohol- that's only going to aggravate your problem. Another good brand is this:

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=78891&catid=1122&trx=PLST-0-CAT&trxp1=1122&trxp2=78891&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-CAT

Walmart and Target and other stores have generic fluoride rinses, so definitely try that. Otherwise a dentist can prescribe a much higher % rinse for you.

Best of luck to you. Also I know you might not want to hear this but cutting out soda, wine, and coffee can really help too.

Please let me know if I can answer anything else for you and I hope things improve soon. 9|3|oh forgot to mention..|noway|stormybizzles@yahoo.com|09:29:07|03/12/2009|

drinking warm green tea (unsweetened) can help oral health too, just a suggestion I thought I'd throw out there. 10|1|My dentist said:|20yrrefunder|tradernikki@yahoo.com|09:44:37|03/12/2009|

I have the same problems too - due to ALL of my medicine - and he told me to use:

Crest Pro Health Rinse - he said to get the WalMart brand - it cost about $5 and the Crest brand cost about $7 - this is for the big (1.5L) bottle. I did not see a smaller bottle at my WalMart. It does not contain any Alcohol. I have only been using it for a few days so don't know if it will work or not. My dentist even had a photocopy of the label of the WalMart brand that he gave to me so that I could take it to WalMart to make sure that I got the right bottle - so guess that he prescribes this all the time.

I actually did try a bottle of the Crest Pro-Health and didn't see any improvement but maybe I need to give it more time to help.

Guess I need to make another trip to Wal-mart.

Thanks so much for all the helpful responses :)
