I sell items on ebay but have never sold gift cards.

I have a couple that I got with rebate promotions/trades, etc. With the economy the way it is I figured maybe I would just sell them for cash. One is to a store that is on the threatened to close list I keep seeing on the internet.

When I looked on line at what has sold it appears that some are selling for more than they are worth. Am I missing something? Why would someone pay $575 for a walmart gift card valued at $500? Any insight would be appreaciated.

There is a purchase incentive program called microsoft live....if you sign up with them and "click thru" their website to buy certain things (one of them being buy-it-now gift cards on ebay), you get $$ back on the purchase. So people on ebay are offering gift cards for higher than their face value.

I'm not even sure if this kind of purchase still qualifies for the $$ back, as it seems like a "loophole" that would have been closed off by now.

Just so you know, regarding gift cards, you can only sell ONE per week now per ebay rules. Also, you are not allowed to send digital gift codes via email to a winner anymore; you have to send an actual gift card.

I personally would not probably take the chance selling gift cards on ebay in the current atmosphere there (depending on the $$ amount). There is a lot of scamming going on, and gift cards are a pretty easy thing to scam on. Someone could say they received the card and it had no $$ left on it, etc.

EDITED TO ADD: I read somewhere on ebay that they were going to start pulling any gift cards that were over face value, but it doesn't seem like a policy that they really enforce given how many cards you still see on there.
