8 0|0|My own grocery challenge this month|doycosmo|eddie2kevin@tampabay.rr.com|08:22:28|02/27/2009|

I decided to take $200 cash out of the bank account this week and starting Sunday (or whenever the 1st is, I can't keep track of the year anymore even?!)I am going to see if I can feed the whole family (two boys, one husband, me and three animals) on only my $200. I think with what I have in stockpiles I should be able to do it, I am going to count toiletries, paper prodcuts and pet food and take out in the budget to. We will see, even with coupons I spend at least $120 a week on groceries so this will be a challenge for me. Anyway, anyone else want to try to make their own challenge and see if we can do it? I follow the $800 blog with the woman and her daughters living off $800 a year and if they can do it for a year I certainly think I can make a month with $200. oh, adn I live in land of no doubles so it makes it more challenging, as much as everyone dislikes Walmart, their price matching has helped me tons save money and probably will this coming month again.

but something you need to know about jane4girls' blog, she ADDS back into her total any rr's she gets from walgreen's or grocery stores, also any ecb's she gets from cvs, and any gc's she gets from any gc promo so her TRUE budget is NOT $800.00 a year. she started 2009 off with over $350 in gc's alone PLUS her $800 in her budget bank account. see, so it's not so hard to feed a family on $800 a year if you actually start off with $1150 plus. kwim? also she has a HUGE, and when i say HUGE i mean puts some of us "big timers" here on RS to SHAME, stockpile. one of her posts for january she got a raincheck and did a special order for quaker rice cakes snacks........ they were 10 for 10, she got 87 packages! no kidding! most of us here wouldn't know what to DO with 87 packages of ANYTHING! lol (and no, kristy this does NOT include you! lol)

in any case................... i think your self challenge is a GREAT one! i will try one too, i just need to do some calculating from january and february and see where we "normally" stand and then i'll cut it and try for a lower total. i should be able to have a challenge for myself posted by monday afternoon!

good luck to you! :)

I read her blog regularly, but when you don't have any stores that double or triple its not
going to be so easy.
Good for you for challenging yourself this way! I have been keeping very careful track of what I
have been spending and cutting back everywhere I can.

I cut about $300 from my montly grocery bill doing this last month and about $260 this month....not as impressive as your goal, but it's helped rotate my stock and use up stuff that I've had for awhile. :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|09:24:01|02/27/2009|

Like last week I got $1033 groceries for $190 but then I donated four grocery bags full to a family my grandma is helping. I sold countless bags to Deb for about $60. I took my gf shopping with me and had her do two orders using my coupons.. she gave me $20 and paid for my $5 order. So depending on how you look at it I got how much back of the $190 I put out.

Jackie dear lol. No matter how many boxes of anything food wise my kids go through it so fast. Last week I got the betty crocker stickerz. One box is one sitting for my kiddos. By the time they all get one the box is empty.

6|4|I think the only way I could do it is by rolling ECB's, RR's and all that into it, otherwise I know I could not. |doycosmo|eddie2kevin@tampabay.rr.com|10:19:09|02/27/2009|

No grocery shopping with kids either, I buy so much extra with them because they either want it really bad or I just dont pay attention to deals and stuff. If anything it will make me more creative with ways to stretch what we already have

Ive been doing good too. Ive stayed out of the stores for 3 weeks and have been using what we have on hand.
Im due for shopping this weekend though but I say we have been doing really well with our stock.
I usually go and stock up on meats that are on sale.

Around valentines I stocked up on t-bones for about $5 a piece so that was a great help. and a week or so before that
I stocked up on pasta for 50 cents a box, cant get any lower than that. 8|1|I need to set a grocery challenge|cathy|coggle@hotmail.com|11:59:48|02/27/2009|

Our family situation is really crazy right now. Dh is working out of town and home on weekends, ds works different shifts and I work day shift and am trying to get back on track with Weight Watchers.

I would like to set up a grocery budget for myself so that I am only buying what I plan on eating according to my ww guidelines. I also want to give dh a budget (this will be tricky : ) ) but his budget will be for only perishable items. He'll be getting an apartment in the next few weeks so he can cook for himself during the week. But I figured I could save us more money if I can buy all his non perishable and health and beauty items (using coupons and sales of course)

We will probably be moving (AGAIN!!!! : ( ) in the next 6 months, so before we start looking for a house (scary scary thought) we want to sock as much money away as we can. I will have to crunch some numbers this weekend and come up with my own challenge
