Has anybody taken their dog to the vet to have their teeth cleaned?
My shih tzu is about 7 years old and I have never done this.
It would cost between $350 - $500 because they have to put her to sleep to clean her teeth :(
I really don't have that kind of money to spend, but I will if it's important to her overall health.
She isn't having any dental problems so I'd like to hold off until next year. 1|1|I only have had this done for our greyhounds...they have notoriously bad teeth (it's the breed), so I have it done every 3 yrs not every year...it is quite expensive, but if the dog has dental problems it is helpful in them keeping their teeth longer...I have a 4 yr old Sheltie I have never taken for a teeth cleaning, his teeth are good, no problems, and I can brush his teeth myself several times a week.....if your dog will allow you do this, it is very good to maintain dental health, but make sure you get a toothpaste for dogs as the fluoride levels in human toothpaste are toxic to dogs...I get the paste at PetSmart, Petco, etc. :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|17:11:04|02/26/2009|
"Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy." 2|2|seems around the 7 year old mark, they need their teeth cleaned, I had my shars teeth cleaned at that age, and the dog I had before her, also got teeth |HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|17:55:23|02/26/2009|
cleaned at 7 years old. not much plaque on teeth, but figured i'd get done at 7 years old, as the older they are you run the risk when they are under, not waking up...so figured i'd do it while they were both at a safe age to do it.
