Cleveland Clinic is desperately seeking qualified nurses. However, if you smoke or
are overweight - they will not hire you. The Clinic is on a healthy kick. There is
no chocolate of any kind in their vending machines. Only healthy snacks like baked
chips, dried fruit, etc....

My husband is undergoing chemo there and he takes a stash of chocolate bars with him for
himself and to share with the nursing staff.

Thank You

I was looking at the apt adds a few months ago and several apts for rent say no smokers need apply. How do they know what you do in your oen apartment. I think this is wrong.

6|1|Some companies don't want to hire smokers because...|Arizona|vbj48@cox.net|11:51:31|02/18/2009|

it raises their health insurance premiums and they are trying to keep those costs down.

Most places don't allow smoking, here, anymore. No restaurants, bars, hotels etc. except the Casinos. Even being outside people have to be a specific distance from the entrances.

People who work in offices have to go outside - no inside smoking.

Where my son works, they cannot smoke on any part of their corporate campus or even in their cars on the company facility. They have to go on the public street, if they want to smoke, and the company really monitors the time away.

Some bars & restaurants do have outside seating for smokers but it is restrictive.

8|2|I don't smoke, and I find this EXTREMELY wrong...if employers are so worried about hiring "at risk"|kellysp6637|frugalk76@aol.com|18:47:26|02/18/2009|

employees then they need to include:

People who drink (could possibly mean high insurance for detox centers, drunk driving accidents etc)

Extremely thin people (could possibly mean they are bulimic or aneroxic...both of which would mean LARGE bills at treatment centers to help maintain their illness)

and the list could go on and on...I mean seriously....this is getting ridiculous!!!!! If employers are going to start dictating what is acceptable lifestyles then they need to broaden the list.

Or how about possible employees that have children with illnesses????? (this could mean employees may need to be out with their children more often and also mean more insurance expense)...

It's so sad what our world is coming to.
9|3|Well, said, Kelly.....if they arent careful, they will be out of candidates to hire. Everyone has a health risk somewhere....there is genetic dispositions to cancer and other conditions, like Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc...they'll be asking for a family health history before hiring too more than likely. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|19:08:04|02/18/2009|

I was thinking the same thing. What about people who don't brush their teeth, exercise or eat meat or eat too much chocolate or salt, drink too much coffee or caffeinated soda & not enough water, eat too much fried foods, not enough fiber or don't wear SPF 45 sunscreen outside?? Oh, they could have or develop high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome, heart palpitations, heart disease, skin cancer etc., etc. All those things could easily require frequent dr./dental visits, medications/treatment, surgery.....
It's unreal! :-p

Just thought of a few more: Maybe in your spare time you bungee jump, snowboard or God forbid, go bowling. You'd be at risk for breaking a leg or arm, or pull a muscle in your back from the bowling.....
This is a VERY slippery slope that employers AND employees will want to be careful with.....

i wonder where dicrimination comes into all of this. on som e application i have seen parts that ask for drivers license info and permission to get your credit score.

how does that figure into if i can do the job. becaue ihave a speeding violation does not mean that i cannot do the job i applied for. because i might ahve a low credit score does mean that i am not capable of doing a certian job.

becausei am 5'3" and 250 lbs does not make me a health risk. i might seriously think about getting a lawyer like the ACLU ti figure some of this stuff out.

Remember your manners: when god answers your prayers----- say thank you.
