seeing posts about politics, and depressing news topics like fires, floods,children murdered etc, that we are already aware of from watching our local new station, kinda sets me in a slump...as I like to come here and escape the depressing stuff for awhile. I like to see posts where we lift eachother spirits, listen to eachother vent, like having a good coffee cluth with our friends and the chat board is our living room...c'mon in and take a seat..

But I do enjoy reading these things on this board. I guess bc I usually have little to no opinion on the matters, it is enlightening for me to see the different viewpoints. For example, the one posted today was interesting to me bc I did not know anything about what they were including/ trying to include in the stimulus package. Bc of the posts generating my interest, I actually read the info in our paper tonight.
So I really have no preference on whether a new board is made but I do hope that people are still allowed to post political and 'hot' topics somewhere.

First off my only issue with that is that it will only lead to more and more boards. Where will it end? Someone will say fine all parenting goes on a board, then someone else will say okay all religion... etc. It could lead to oodles of boards.
And as one who likes to discuss politics and various "hot" topics just like any post you have the option to skim the OP and then skip the post. There are many I skim and then chose to not open for whatever reason. Sometimes it means I don't have an answer for the person, or the time to respond, or I don't like the topic.

discussions get decidedly hostile and that's never a nice thing. A few weeks ago at work, later at night on a week-night, there were only a few people there, all comfortable with each other and me and they had a political discussion. I stayed out, not a topic I want to get into with people I need to serve. I guess they got bored with each other agreeing so one of them said,"Let's ask Cathie". For a minute I forgot that they didn't want to really hear me, and they know where I stand anyway. I realized what was going on and said to them, "You know what I think, I don't understand why you just try and bait me to get into this with you." I walked out of the room and my boss followed. He said he didn't really think they were being mean. I said, I did and as much as they all sit there smugly with their opinions, thinking that they are smarter than me and how can i think that way, I am thinking EXACTLY the same way they are that I am smarter than them and how can they think that way! He laughed and said I was exactly right, he is also politically opposite me but never is condescending or superior. Sometimes, you just need to walk away and I am learning to walk and keep my mouth shut. BTW, when I came back in these people whom I really do like were just great, we droppped it.

until you click open. that is how they do it on other boards I visit. even though I scroll through and ignore topics,when the topic is right out there in plain view you see it, you don't have choice but to see the subject line..

what is being talked about. I like it though that there are lots of different topics talked about on chat, it is just like if you were chatting with a friend, lots of things come up and you just have to skip over the ones that don't interest or are offensive, or just might bring your day down.
