hi everyone! this is for people who regularly SELL on ebay.
is it "normal" for ebay to sporadically "hold" funds until an item arrives? i sold a few things on ebay this weekend and they are holding the funds from one item until paypal get confirmation that it arrived. i've never had this happen before so i have no clue WHY. kwim?

If you are a seller with less than 100 feedback or selling items in "high risk" fraud categories (electronics is one that comes to mind, but I'm sure there's lots others), paypal will hold funds for 21 days. They will release them prior to that IF the buyer leaves you feedback or you can provide a delivery confirmation number that shows it was delivered.

I don't know if there's a screen you can go to in paypal or if you have to give them a call - I've haven't had the misfortune of held funds yet, so I'm not sure of the procedure. I believe after you give them the tracking number, they still say it will take like 2 or 3 days to release the funds, but it's still better than 21 days.

I'm assuming you checked in paypal to be sure that the funds were actually being held? (ie. it wasn't just an email that you got, right?)

i still have the so called official paypal letter..and even paypal couldn't believe it!!
luckily i did get my $10 back... but still it was pretty elaborate.

What is a payment hold for eBay items?
It is a hold that PayPal places on a payment you receive for an item you sold on eBay. The amounts held will be shown as "Pending" in your PayPal account. You still have access to all other funds in your PayPal account.
Why are my payments being held?
Payment holds for eBay items are an effort to increase marketplace safety. We hold payments when we suspect a transaction may be risky. Here are the most common instances in which an eBay item payment may be held:
•You have been an eBay member for less than 6 months, and you sell an item for more than $100
•You have an eBay feedback score of less than 100, and you sell an item for more than $100
•You have a buyer dissatisfaction percentage* greater than 5%
•You have an average DSR of less than 4.5
•You have received fewer than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 12 months
•You are listing your item in a high-risk category such as gift certificates, video games, cell phones, computers, or consumer electronics.
When will PayPal release the hold?
Your funds will be released when one of the following occurs:
•The buyer leaves you positive feedback
•3 days pass after proof the item was delivered**
•21 days pass without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal filed on the transaction
We may hold the funds longer if your buyer files a dispute, claim, chargeback, reversal or has otherwise taken action to dispute the transaction.

all i got were the "hold" links within my actual paypal account. i've had the account since 2000 and have never seen this before! i really think maybe the buyer of the item had a previousl problem (for lack of a better term) and that's why they are holding it. i hadn't orginally intended on putting insurance on the item but when i saw all of the "hold" stuff and read everything i said no way am i going to get screwed on this one! also, the buyer emailed asking if i could ship to a different address, well normally i would be like ok BUT with all of this stuff i politely said no, i'm sorry but i have to ship to the paypal address on file. kwim?
i am really interested in seeing how long it takes paypal to release it once she leaves the feedback.
