Here is you a funny story and now it is a problem. The other morning I went out and started our car I noticed when I went out I smelled a skunk. Well then the dogs came around me and I realized they had been sprayed by the skunk but eventidently the skunk had also sprayed my hubby car. So I had to take our son to the bus stop which is about 5 minutes away. I took him and we just kept smelling the skunk my son ask mom do you think the smell will get into our clothes I mean this was awfully strong. I told him I did not think so well I still had my long gown on just put a jacket over it when I got back home and came in the house I kept smelling the skunk sure enough the smell was on my gown. I had to get it off it was awful. When I got in his car yesterday it was some still there. The dogs still smell bad. So I did not think much about it until my hubby came home this evening and had bought a few groceries and there was the skunk smell again it was so strong when he came in so I got trying to find the smell and it was on the bags that the food was in. I threw them away and the smell went away. So now the smell is in the trunk I am not sure what to do. We have not found the skunk but we think the dogs took reverenge on the skunk and ate it. Well most of it today they had some part of something so we are assuming it to be the skunk but wonder how I can get the smell out of his car and trunk.

You can look at some of the dog supply sites and they all have odor removers for skunk sprays. Some are not too expensive. Check KV Vet. They are good. If they have nothing you can afford you can get some of the Glade Solid air fresheners. They are the ones that are jelly like. Open them up and smear them all around the trunk. When they dry up you will have to scrape it to get it up but it will help with the smell. I use this on dogs in the grooming shop that get sprayed and then wash it out. Works great! Baking soda
Dawn dishwashing liquid
Hydrogen peroxide

Mix all together in a bucket filled w/water & use an old wash cloth to wipe around inside the car & trunk.
You can also add a mixture of it to bath water for yourself or for the dogs &/or add it in the washing maching to get the smell out of your clothes.
Several years ago, one of my little house dogs went out for potty & ran smack into the back end of a very nasty "kitty". The smell was AWEFUL & all over. :( Despite using tomato juice & vinegar to bathe the dog & trying a couple of expensive "skunk off" sprays in the car & house, none of them worked. My dog's vet gave me the above recipe & it worked like magic!

that you just have to keep washing everything over and over best you can (seems kind of hard though with a car trunk), and air it out.....some of the remedies that others mentioned work to certain degree, but you have to keep repeating them and then just waiting for the smell to subside on its own.

Washing the dogs in tomato juice is one that you have to repeat several times before it helps much.

Good luck, that smell is just awful and it seems to permeate everything. Blech, kind of glad i don't do dog grooming anymore! LOL 7|1|My husband coon hunts and his dog got sprayed several times|2kidsmom|pgladden4@aol.com|16:17:52|02/01/2009|

He used lots of Febreze. Mostly about the trunk is just what the other
post says. Open it and let it air out all you can. Really and truly
as much as we have had to deal with this, nothing helps but time. Sorry
to tell you that but it is true. My husband sprayed the dog with Febreze and
it didn't hurt it, not sure if it helped though. The tomato juice sounds
good while it is cold everywhere now and whatever you do don't let it in the
house. It will never go away. My dog's collar got sprayed and we couldn't get
the smell out of it and we had to buy a new collar.
Good Luck because that is a hard smell to get rid of.
