1|1|Yes, I have read about it on boards. Also, they are considering Tues as the day to shut down rather than Sunday as it is a slow mail day.|Barb09|Barb0969@AOL.com|10:20:12|01/31/2009|

We all complain about government waste and if cutting down one day means saving us taxpayers money, maybe it isn't such a bad idea. I know my mail carrier often works 6 days a week when he can't get a sub. It should at least be considered. I'd prefer no mail on Saturday, though. Tuesday is right in the middle of the week.

4|2|Can you imagine a week with a Monday holiday? We wouldn't get our trades for 3 days in a row. Everytime there is a mail holiday I inevitably end up with at least ONE trader wanting to know why they didn't get their envie in 3-4 days.....HELLO?!?! We had a mail holiday. I can't IMAGINE how impatient people would get with 3 days of no mailing and no receiving.|Barb09|Barb0969@AOL.com|11:21:10|01/31/2009|

This seems like a no-brainer solution to control the bleeding in the Postal Service. Tuesday seems like a good day, too. In my 30 years working in an office setting, I can tell you it is the lightest mail day.

I just don't see this as being that painful.

It's true that a 5 day week is under consideration. The economy is affecting the post office, too. Mail volume is down a huge amount in the past year.

Doubtful that Tuesday will be a non-delivery day, simply because businesses are open on that day. But if the post office decides to close on Saturdays, there will only be six Monday holidays during the year when there will be no mail delivery for 3 days.

Changes are sometimes uncomfortable - but necessary

money that way. Don't know about other areas but here it's ridiculous. If you want to mail something here in our town you are better to just walk it there yourself and hand deliver if you need it there tomorrow. Here is the scenario at our PO here and the surrounding small towns (this is a VERY rural area here so not like they are getting TONS of volume of mail here, you know?)..you mail something to be delivered here in our town at the PO. They ship it anywhere to 1 1/2 to 2 hrs north of us here to a large city to sort...then send it BACK down here to be delivered again. Think of all that handling, manpower, gasoline for truck etc they are wasting. There is no real reason why they can't sort it out here and deliver it locally..that is crazy! Another thing that makes people mad is they close our PO for an hour at lunch time. There are minimum 3 employees at any given time there so no reason why (This again being a VERY small town) that they couldn't 'stagger'lunch hours with the employees. They miss a LOT of mail now due to that closing. Every single time I go and forget they are closed during that time, I have encountered business people in there that were really mad as they needed to do business on their lunch hour but couldn't. Doesn't make any sense at all... 10|2|We have the same thing here....letters or packages mailed at the PO are sent to a processing center about 35 miles away.....we USED to have seperate blue mail boxes for local mail, but they took those away and now ALL the mail goes to the center...local mail would come back here and then get delivered...silly. Plus it adds a day to my trade envies going out which irritates me no end :P|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|09:05:49|02/01/2009|

Used to have 2 slots in the PO lobby - 1 for local mail & the other for other mail. They sealed up the local mail slot a few years ago so now ALL our mail automatically goes to the main PO in the big city 30 mi. away before it's delivered. Any local mail w/in town here has to go all that way & is then sent back here. Makes no sense.

Happy New Year!

13|1|Same here, I sent a package, to my parents, by express mail, during the holidays. They live in the same state, but wanted it there quickly. It was sent all the way to MA, and then back tracked, past me, to my parents in CT. If mailing in CT, why send it out of state. I really do not get it.
