10 0|0|Is anyone else's water bill very high? I am trying to figure out how come when the bill was every 3 months it was $80 and now they started a every month bill after many years of having it quarterly and now its like $150 a month ... kinda odd to me. And we use the same amount.|sarahjones|s.scottjones@comcast.net|08:58:12|01/28/2009|

Sarah S. Jones 1|1|Did you check the rate and consumption amounts?|bluh2oeyes|bluh2oeyes@yahoo.com|09:08:18|01/28/2009|

I know that sometimes our town "estimates" one month and the next month it's "actual" but then sometimes the rate per unit is more as well as the actual consumption units could be up. And sometimes the sewer charge is more here from one month to the next.

Look at all the numbers.

If your consumption has increased you may have a leak....my neighbor had one just to their side of the meter which ment they were calculating usage and it was really just seeping into the ground on her side of the meter.

I agree that $150/month is quite high IMO.

they are having to send the meter reader out every month
rather than every 3 months now,he has to be paid and that
could raise the amt of your bill, just a thought

Willa 3|2|In our town, if u use tiny amount, it's $30/quarter-- any more it's $129|sneakers1234|ross417@msn.com|09:39:06|01/28/2009|

tiny useage is $30/quarter then there's a HUGE window like 5k-75k gallons that makes it $129/mo. So no incentive to conserve as long as under the 75k gallons. new co and that's the new rates. 4|3|Just for city water bill mine is around $30 BUUUUT then add the city sewer at $30 & Garbage pick up at $20|pumamomma|pumamomma@yahoo.com|09:48:02|01/28/2009|

My total bill last month was $85!!! and I read my own meter and keep a close eye on it because if I skip a month of reading they send someone out and my bill seems to double, Why? Haven't a clue.

I work for my local water dept. I would call billing and ask them (nicely) to explain it to you. It is possible that the rates in your area increased and you are not aware of it. It could also just be a billing error.

I know you said your usage is the same...this is for those reading that maybe do have higher usage.

Here are a few tips:
Toilets are the number one cause of higher water usage...
1. Put a small amount of food coloring in the back of your toilet tank. Do not flush for 1 hour. If you see color seep into the bowl, your toilet seal needs replaced. Just a small seal problem will add up to lots of gallons...

2. Is your meter read manually or electronicaly? If manual read the reader could have accidently reversed numbers.

3. Turn the water valve to your home completely off. Next, go to your meter and raise the lid. If the meter is turning, you have a line break somewhere between your meter and your house. Some companies consider it a felony to "tamper" with your meter. Be sure you have permission from them before lifting your lid.

4. Check under sinks, hot water tank, and any other places water is in your home. Also check any outside faucets. We had a kid last year that turned on his neighbors outside facuet as a joke. It wasn't funny when he ran up the bill over $1,000 for a month.

and so is our neighbors' bills. The rates in our town are high but it is due to years of not maintaining the water system (lines, etc.) in town.

No matter what I do it is always 56.22 a month. They have charged us a fee for reading it and etc. Suppose to of been taken off when they recouped the cost. But the haven't. 8|3|thanks everyone for the help , I called and asked the company to break it down for me and they found a few big errors. My sister told me hers was doubled as well and she would call too. I was just more freaked out because this is a rental and if there is leaks everywhere my landlord would have to send someone over .. and paying $150 for a rental a month for water and rent and the sewage I would move out in June for sure lol. Because the rents have gone down everywhere else I just hate moving and want to when we get a house and that is it but we might just move come June anyways.|sarahjones|s.scottjones@comcast.net|14:56:11|01/28/2009|

Sarah S. Jones 9|4|Oh forgot to mention my landlord is cheap so he would probably have someone come fix what would be needed but it would be done half A$$ed so they would need to come again in a month or 2. So that is why if it was a leak, we have had water damage already in this place so it would not surprise me. I would not wanna be here if the tub went through the ceiling or something .|sarahjones|s.scottjones@comcast.net|15:00:08|01/28/2009|
