2|2|Wow..you guys..I am sorry....|shelly|shellysue49@gmail.com|09:48:33|01/26/2009|
...to hear how high your bills are! We are struggling here in the new home as well....between the gas (about $250-280/mo)+ the elect/water/sewer (all 3 combined = $200/mo), we are WAYYY over budget ourselves. We cannot figure out why, since this house we built is *supposed* to be more energy efficient, but Ron's already been down in the crawl space redirecting the heating ducts once. He needs to readjust again as it DID help some, the upstairs and master bedroom are COLD while rest of house is warm. Upstairs used to be HOT while rest of house was comfy, save for the master bedroom, which has ALWAYS run toooo cold?!?
We keep cutting back wherever we can....watching lights, turning them off whenever possible, I told him this morning to turn the thermostat down as it was set (default/by heating-cooling co??) at 70 degrees and that is not necessary....i will have to look and see what Ron set it at, but I was turning it to around 65 only for it to keep resetting itself back to 70, apparently! No wonder our bills have been running high....we seriously need to get all this under control.
Ugh....I feel for you...we are in the same boat.
Shelly
7|3|Whoops! I lied...my gas bill ....|shelly|shellysue49@gmail.com|10:43:33|01/26/2009|
...was just under $200 this past mo., which was our highest yet, so far. Was like $197.xx ---sorry, guys, I remembered wrong! I guess I don't have anything to complain about compared to some of you all, but still, as I said, everything (utilities) combined, we are spending DOUBLE in this new, SMALLER house than I did in the house I owned before Ron & I got married...ugh...
Doesn't make sense.
Shelly 3|1|Shelly for us it isn't to bad as that amount covers our heating and electric We'd save more but Mom get s cold easy |teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|10:06:31|01/26/2009|

4|1|I got my natural gas (heat) bill Friday......|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|10:25:02|01/26/2009|
It was $188! :( I think that's the highest heat bill I've EVER had in my life. LOL I'm in a 1-story house. This month has been SO cold that for a few days, I had to turn my thermostat up to 73° from about 71°. Guess those 2 degrees made a big difference. LOL When temps are below 0 & windchills are in the -20° to -40° range, it is definitely noticeable. It doesn't help that the gas co. had asked the PSC for permission to raise the rates & the PSC recently approved a 2.6% increase. This at a time when people are struggling financially as it is. :(
I don't feel so bad, however, cuz one of my sisters (also has a 1-story house) had also just gotten her gas bill & it was $190, & they keep their thermostat set at 62°! Believe me, w/the winters we have here that's not very warm at all. At least it was nice & warm in my house so I guess it kind of balances out the cost. This is my 1st winter in this house so I didn't know what to expect. But I definitely know I probably need some new insulation & need to replace/repair a couple of windows (I did put plastic over the ones that aren't so good). ;)
Do you have electric heat? Does your county maybe offer emergency energy assistance for an elect. bill that high? My elect. bill is separate & that was $90 so I'm looking at about $300 for heat & elect. combined.
I think alot of people are likely going to have to seek some type of energy assistance this winter, possibly for the 2nd time, as it's just a very difficult time for many.....

time with your heating etc bills. Also go to your County Township Trustee..courthouse can tell you who that person is..and they can help one time with all or part of your bill as well. 9|1|Just pay the $200 that you have|ncbrunet|ncbrunet@aol.com|11:21:08|01/26/2009|
toward the bill right now. They will roll the balance into a late payment. It will add a late charge to it but they will not turn you off. Try to save as much as you can and pay a little toward the balance each week or two weeks as you can so it doesn't snowball too much.
Good luck,
Marsha
Please leave feedback if we have traded.

10|1|ours was $350 I neraly collapsed, we had heat on for 3 days in a row (we are in Florida) and I think it really raised it, even in the summer with a/c on ALL the time it only averages about 200$, we split it up into 2 payments on each of our current bills and paid them 200$ right away. it was crazy!|doycosmo|eddie2kevin@tampabay.rr.com|11:55:09|01/26/2009|

just for electricity! I don't know how they expect people to make ends meet. 15|2|Ours is around $120 a month and the gas|crenchen|crenchen@aol.com|17:39:11|01/26/2009|
is on the budget for $83 a month so that isn't two bad. If I could get my hubby to turns the light out at night when he is watching tv I'am sure that would help a little. I take a nap sometimes and come downstairs and there will be 2 lights burning on the first floor and two on in the family room, doesn't make sense but I can't get him to turn them off. I have to run behind him and do it. 14|1| ours is $300 and we live in a one story |aliciamk|ohiogirl279@yahoo.com|17:35:13|01/26/2009|

17|2|Sheesh! I'd be checking to see if something's "spiking" your meter. :(|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|18:30:36|01/26/2009|
One of my older computers did this. I don't know if there was something wrong w/the power supply inside it, power cord or what but it would make that little disk in my meter fly, slow down & then fly again.

21|6|My gas bill was $413 and electric another $110|carol58|cvigeant@comcast.net|21:03:14|01/26/2009|
I have a 2 story but small home. Its just been so cold. I leave my heat at 58 at night and the highest is 64 during the day. Just think if I had it to 70 degrees. My last years bill was $325 for the same month. This ecomony is killing me.
