7 1/2 years on this ranch and we've never had a problem with coyotes until last night. We had a baby born (unexpectedly last night - we weren't expecting any until March) and what appears to be a huge pack of them got the baby and drug it off. They are likely starving because of all this blasted snow. Poor baby. Poor mama....she is just staring off and mooing. I am soooo sad.

I live in Vermont and the coyotes are really abundant this year. Last winter we had one crossing down the edge of our lawn, and we saw one standing on the ice on the pond across the road from our house. During this past hunting season my husband and my son found more coyote tracks than deer tracks. They have also been coming in really close. My son found tracks a short distance from our house.
I am sure the animals here are having a tough winter, but they started coming in close really early, like before the snow hit, so it is kinda scary that they don't seem to fear anything.
We have chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and a couple of calves, but knowing that the coyotes are coming in so close we have kept everyone closed in this winter because I am sure we will start losing them if we don't :(

We have seen them in the yard maybe three times, but often hear them at night. Subdivisions are pushing them farther and farther out.
