Did a load of wash last night and went to switch it over and there's oil all over the floor -- clothes are washed and rinsed and spun dry, but oil all over. DH said its the transmission and that theres oil on the underside of the wahser too. Called an appliance repair place today and the part is $129.99 (just for the part) Its a Kenmore, and its probably 5-8 years old, would have to look at the paperwork... anyone ever had one replaced and did it work for a while after? I am thinking $129 vs a new washer at probably $499? Whats your thoughts?

I will ask hubby specifics on it when he gets up. He will know what was wrong w/ it.

We ended up using the thing til it died and then just bought a new one. But I do not think $129 is bad- but how much will the labor cost?

Good luck and will repost when hubby gets up.
Stacey 2|2|bought it in 2000, so almost 9 years old, parts diagram shows about 100 parts to get the darn thing off, so I guess its not worth it... Running it right now|KELLYNEISH|KELLYNEISH@AOL.COM|10:34:55|01/17/2009|

He said ours was a leaking seal on the transmission. How long it lasts totally depends on how bad the leak is; a big one will leak the oil out fairly quickly and then the transmission will lock up like a car engine w/ no oil. Then it is junk.

Hope your is covered by warrantee, Kelly!
Good luck,
Stacey =) 9|2|Ok thanks, the Sears guy comes Monday btwn 1-5 keep fingers crossed :-)|KELLYNEISH|KELLYNEISH@AOL.COM|16:47:33|01/17/2009|
