4 0|0|Small claims cases - are they public record?|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|08:24:22|01/14/2009|

A friend of mine may need to take her builder to small claims court.

She has heard that this guy has been taken to small claims several times already over other houses he built.

Can she find out if he has, in fact, been sued before?

Thanks. 1|1|i know they are in beaufort, sc (M)|pussecat|pu55ecat@aol.com|08:34:14|01/14/2009|

i don't remember how i found it all exactly but we had a collections agency try to tell us they had filed suit against us (they hadn't, and couldn't mind you, as the statute of limitations had run out) but i do remember googling the magistrate's web page for the county and finding the public records for small claims. i also called them and was given LOTS of helpful information. hth and good luck to your friend.

2|1|She can do a search at a Court House there... sometimes if judgments are obtained, they are filed at the court house to create a lien. Here in VA, we sued our landlord and it went through the county court system. In PA, I used to file suits for clients at a district justice. District courts/small claims are generally limited to a certain amount of dollars and larger claims are then filed at the county level. But yes, she could probably ferret it out if she made the right inquiries.|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|08:39:50|01/14/2009|
