First off, my dadgum remote needs new batteries, every time I hit a button, it transmits to the tv as me hitting it twice. Where did I put those things? LOL....

OK, yesterday was like, one of the worst days of my life I think. Probably why I'm up so early this morning, I can't go back to sleep. Let's begin with work... Boy, did I have a crappy day at work. First thing in the morning we had a meeting and all of us that are "salaried" are being put back on "hourly" . The only benefit being salaried had for us was that we didn't have to make up our time if we missed an hour or two for a doctors appt every once in a while or if we were out with a sick child. Now all that time has to be made up. What really ticks me off is a couple things. I've been there 15 years this year, and this is how I am rewarded? Sheesh. AND, I'm truely upset with those people that ruined it for the rest of us. I don't understand why they couldn't just reprimand those people that were abusing the system. It's easy to track, there's no denying what they were doing. Anyways. I know it's just an economy thing right now, but STILL. And I'm greatful to at least have a job. BUT. No more taking reports to the Dr's office with me to work on, and no more checking my work email from home. They can bite me.

Then.... last night I got a phone call from my cousin in Wisconsin (I'm in TN)... and began the conversation with "at least both parties are still alive at this point". Oh great... To begin with, one of my aunts went to check on another aunt of mine (also my godmother) yesterday morning, and when she got there, her lips were blue. After arguing, she finally agreed to let my aunt take her to the hospital. Fast forward- she either had another heart attack or a stroke and she is currently in a coma in respiratory ICU and they really don't expect her to come out of it this time. They are waiting to do a catscan or whatever to see how much brain activity is left. So, my cousin is heading down the hall and someone calls her name, she turns around and it's another cousin of mine from a different branch of the family tree. My Uncle Ronnie had just gotten there by ambulance a little while earlier and the entire family was there. He's either going to make it or he's not, is what that cousin said. Both my aunt and uncle are very dear to me and it hurts that it's impossible for me to get up there to see them.

OK, I'm done. Today better be better.

Thanks!
Jessica

Your work place sounds like mine cause if one person does something against the rules we all have to pay the price and the person that breaks the rules never sees that it is them that causes all this and I sit right in front on this person and everytime I look at her I just want to smack her up beside the head and it would make me feel better.

I will say a prayer for your family members that are sick and you just hang in there girl!!

Hugs

You are exactly right! There are about 30 people in my department, we all sit in cubes and about half of them waste 1/2 there time gossiping, I was SOOOO mad yesterday! I wish I had an Ipod I could listen to and tune them all out!

I called the hospital this morning, I couldn't get details of course, but they are both still alive. There are family members there, but I didn't want to wake them up, and I'm sure they will call me with a more detailed update later on.

Thanks!

4|3|Jessica, I'll keep your family members in my prayers.....as for the change in salaried to hourly, you need to do some checking for your state's laws (ISHA can you help!?!?) as to whether they can legally have you "make up" time previously granted while still salaried....I really dont think they can do that in retro, only from this point forward...and actually if they are paying you hourly now, you may not even have to make up an hour here and there anyway, you just wouldnt get paid for that.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|09:19:54|01/13/2009|

ETA: I totally hear you on a whole group being penalized for a few people's abuse of salaried positions....I had that hit a couple months ago, and while I am still salaried, we are watched like hawks (they can watch me all they want, I work my hours) but of course a blind eye is still being turned to the ones who caused the problem in the first place. Betty, you and I have a lot in common, there's a couple people where I work that I'd like to thump on the head too, lol.

Nothing really new to report... Doesn't sound like either one of them is expected to come through. Aunt Edna is only staying alive from the ventilator and is completely non responsive. The EEG apparently showed little to no brain activity. Uncle Ronnie only responds if he is "yelled" at. He is also only staying alive with the ventilator. It's -16 up there right now. Brrrrrr!

As for work- Joy- we only have to make up our time if we want get paid for it from here on out- we don't have to make up anything missed in the past... Today wasn't so bad. I avoided my boss and took my XM radio in with me that I can record music on and put on the headphones and listened to that all day. It's just as nice as an Ipod I think, if not nicer, I can record as much as I want and easily delete whatever I don't want to keep. I think it's my new best friend at work, LOL, and here I've had it all this time and didn't realize how valuable it was! I hear our department is under intense scrutiny so it's better this way, I just hunker down, do my job, listen to my favorite music, avoid getting dragged into the gossip and if someone important walks by, at least I won't be one of the ones standing up.

Thanks!
Jessica

After doing more tests and deciding there was nothing more they could do for her, they took her off the ventilator and she died peacefully. We have family all over the place (TN, FL, CA, NV), so since the weather is so rotten up there (Milwaukee), they have decided to go ahead and have the church service for those that are up there and we will have a "celebration" of her life Memorial Day weekend. It's a long ways off, but it will be easier for everyone to get together - safely. I already had my emotional breakdown about it on wednesday, so today wasn't so bad, I just wasn't expecting the phone call- (you never do!) Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. My Uncle is still hanging on.

Thanks!
Jessica
