10 0|0|I need HELP!!|TIM2|99smokey@comcast.net|08:13:44|01/11/2009|
Something happened to my computer and I was trying to get it to start and I ended up resetting it back to the time when the computer was new--no favorites, no email, no document files. Of course, I didn't make a backup disc either.
I tried to do a system restore but the only restore point is Jan 11, 2009 - today and it won't let me restore back before that date. I know all my files and information are in there somewhere but I don't know how to get at it. Could someone who knows something about computers please post any info to help me retrieve my information. I just want the computer back the way it was!! lol

I might be able to help you find your documents, but don't know anything about email or favorites.

I did so many things trying to get the computer started that I forgot most of what I did. I do know I hit F10 and it was downhill from there. I have my email and addressbook now but all the files I had in Microsoft Works are hiding--those are really what I want back. I can always reset the favorites.
I'm really getting exhausted trying to figure this out. Think I'll take a break. I knew I should have taken a computer course somewhere along the way!! LOL

6|2|You can try doing a search (m)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|10:59:11|01/11/2009|
Click on Start, Search. The click on where it says All files and folders. In the box under where it says "All or part of the file name" type in the word "doc" (w/out the quotation marks) & then click on the Search button. It should find & list any files you've made & saved in Microsoft Works using Microsoft Word (usually saved in your MyDocuments folder). You'll then have to click on each one in the list to see if it's one you've made/saved. Then, right click on the ones you want & go to the Send To option & select where you want to send that file to - you'll quite likely want to send it to your Desktop or My Documents. Then, they should all be either on your desktop screen as small thumbnail icons or back in & listed under your MyDocuments folder.
HTH. ;)

I've found some solutions to problems I've created using those...also google it, like search "lost documents after restore" or something like that.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|10:48:35|01/11/2009|

Go through MY COMPUTER and start searching the drives for your folders or use the search feature. If they are all gone unfortunately it's probably all gone for good.

I found most of the files, thanks to maraj's instructions. I really appreciate the help. The files that were lost can be replaced but the large one I was worried about was there and I was able to make a copy of it.
This has worn me out. I'll use this little crisis as an excuse to take an early nap! LOL
Thanks again ladies--I don't know what I'd do without you!

You gave me the incentive I needed to finally get my butt in gear & copy all of the stuff from my My Documents folder & all my Favorites to my little portable Flash Memory Key/Drive. Handy little buggers they are & it went lickety split. ;) Hard to believe tho that w/all the stuff I have in those 2, I still have 800+ mb free on my 1 gb Flash Key. LOL
