I have seen people move out in my apartment building and throw away boxes of canned food etc..I think what a waste, and selfish of them not to try to give it away to someone, just thrown all in the dumpter..

When we moved out here from Phoenix, we gave away to the other neighbors things we couldn't take with us, I'd rather have someone else use it than toss it out. One lady thought we were selling her some of the stuff, LOL, we told her no it's yours for free, we can't take it. :) Rebekka

I have gotten steak from someone's plate which had been bitten into
a package of maruchen soup in a cup with bugs in it you could see them in the plastic so I would not even open the plastic
dare crackers ( I love these) that were four years old - they were so stale you could smell it when you opened the box...

Dented cans or damaged boxes are ok as long as it doesn't affect the contents. I believe the food pantries around here, however, aren't allowed to stock anything expired, & certainly not expired 4 years or w/bugs!
That is very demeaning to the people who need that food, & I can't believe the food pantry can get away w/it as it's downright NASTY. :(

canned chicken, issued from the goverment surplus, the chicken meat had ring worms wrapped through the meat...don't know how that passed goverment inspection, but grossed me out!

I will not even repeat what comes to my mind regarding that!
On a different note:
I am not sure if it is a RULE here or just a preference, but last year son's school took a food collection for the big food pantry here and they said NAMEBRAND items only (so no storebrands/ generics).
