I've always wanted to buy one, as sometimes I get lucky and fruit/veggies are really cheap on sale and would like to get one of these. I'm a vegetarian also, so could really use this product..

due to space issues but we used it ALOT when I had it accessible. I especially liked to dry sour apples into chips- YUM! You can also make real-fruit roll ups (they are different from the store type so try them first), banana chips, dried grapes (which do not compare to store bought raisins at all!) Over all, I really liked it and thought it well paid for itself.

You probably can buy one used for next to nothing if you check around. We got $20 locally for ours- it was like a Ronco or similar brand- but I had a lot of people wanting it so prob could have gotten $25-30 out of it. Hope that helps w/ figuring a price for you.

Ours was a cheap version, maybe $20 or $25, and it worked just fine although I think there are some things the cheaper one can't dry (? I could be wrong about this cause it was quite a long time ago that I had one plus things may have changed with them).

I never got enough use out of it though and it took up quite a bit of space, so I got rid of it.

I think I paid about $20 at Target a long time ago. I use it seasonally for drying herbs and tomatoes from the garden. It generates a lot of heat so I usually set it up outside on the porch or in the unheated garage. I keep it stored in the box on a shelf in the basement.

Now that I look at the box, it might have come from Kmart and not Target. It is very basic in design, but easy to clean.
