I often have neck and shoulder pain that radiates into my head and ear. When my neck is particularly angry with me, I end up, for lack of better words, hearing my neck spasm internally (like in my ear drums - or maybe those are what are spasming). You could try some chiropractic treatment. I use heat on my neck. Also, having your back just a lil out of whack can make the rest of you ache pretty bad. Long winded, I know... but you should try some ibuprofen or something. I have gotten injections before to help with this (stronger anti-inflams) and believe it or not, when I had Poison Ivy last year, the prednisone I got for my itchies helped my neck a lot (not so great for the rash though).
