I have an IRS audit next Monday, I took Dot to the dr's today and she's got a touch of RSV, and I'm trying to clip coupons and get trades out. I have to spend $48 to get birth certificates for all the kids for the audit. Not to mention take all seven kids to the department of vital records one day this week to get them. The IRS lady was super nasty and basically accused me of not having my children under my care. She said I have to prove with receipts from 2006 that they were in my care. The grocery store is tripling and I haven't cut or prepared to go. I just can't handle one more thing I so seriously can't.

Thank you for the prayers. I figure I will take their birth certificates to prove I had em, their doctors proof from today I was given, and their immunization records. I didn't keep receipts for diapers etc, from two years ago.

You should be alright if you have birth records & doctor's records. If you had them christened or baptised that would work also. Never been through this, but have had my share of IRS problems. They can be such aholes when it comes to things like this. Children of this age unless they were under the care of the state or with an ex, will not have any other records, so who knows how you are suppose to prove they were with you if they won't accept doctor's records or birth records. Have your pediatricitan write a letter stating that they took care of them at this age while they were under your care, that should also work. Good luck.

i know that years ago you could only claim a certain number of dependents, and a lot of people would allow their mother's and father's to claim the "other's" (for lack of a better term).
did ya'll do something like that kristy?
it just really seems fishy to me, i still think they are "looking" for something other than the kids.
but then again, i dont' trust the IRS. lol

And that I will probably be audited every few years. And that when your deductions come close to equaling your income it always flags. And proving the child is in your care is just a normal part of it. My foster care friend actually knew of a bio parent that claimed their kids despite the fact that she had them for nine months of the year.
