I was just wondering what kinds of pre- menopause symptoms anyone has experienced and what kinds of remedies have helped alleviate the symptoms
Thanks! 1|1|I'm 41 today, been having pre-menopause symptoms for about 4-5 yrs according to my GYN....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:32:04|01/04/2009|

Started out with extremely heavy and frequent cycles several years ago.
The last year I've moved on to having hot flashes (sporadic, really frequent for a couple weeks, then nothing for a couple months), irregular cycles, and more PMS symptoms than I have had since I was a teen.
I have some co-workers that swear by adding soy to the diet to help with the pre-menopause symptoms...one gal eats the soy nuts several times a week, another has substituted soy milk for cow's milk in her diet. I think I'm going to have to try something pretty soon myself.

"Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy." 2|1|I am 40, and in peri menopause, when one ovary stops releasing an egg all the time. So I get one killer heavy period, for the good ovary, followed by a really light period, for the one not working all the time. At least that is how my doctor explained it. But I am sure itis more complicated, than that. I have also noticed PMS being so much worse now. I never had this much trouble, in my teens. Joys of woman hood. but I've had night sweats since I was a teenager due to endometriosis. I've pretty much grown accustomed to that but the daytime hotflashes started a little over a year ago where the sweatshirt has to come off (I wear a t-shirt under it) & I head outside to cool off despite below 0 temps. LOL The mood swings have also been a common occurance since I was a teen but I've noticed I've become more weepy the last couple of years. Not depressed - just that it doesn't seem to take much for me to cry sometimes & not necessarily over anything really worth crying about, maybe just more easily upset or stressed I guess. I definitely tire easier.
Avoiding/decreasing the intake of caffeine (including chocolate) helps along w/drinking more chamomile/herbal tea. I also munch on cashews every evening as the magnesium & maganese in cashews are natural relaxants. I've also just started taking Ginseng again so am hoping that will help restore some of my energy level. It's just that it takes about a month (at 1000mg/day for the 1st month & then can be reduced to 500mg/day thereafter) to notice any difference....

Happy New Year!

less hair on head
more hair on face (my son tells me to shave like dad rofl)
easy weight gain
worse vision already wear bifocals lol
more pirspiration
longer and more messy times of the month also smell funnier can't desctibe though, have to shower a bunch of times

I took the pill which helped the time of the month, but then my ob-gyn (a guy of course) insisted I get the depo provera shot and I had the worse cramps and pain I ever had, and have had a super heavy flow for about three weeks now and of course now they are saying they can't give me any more hormones and it may take two or three depo shots to stop my period. That is not what he said when he gave me the first shot and he won't be giving me anymore.

on the day I should get my depo shot I am going back on the pill, the one that used to be called ortho tri-cyclen. easy, low progesterone, (didn't help the hair on the face issue but did help with acne and pain and pms symptoms and cut way down on the flow.)

Sure hope this amount of specificity helps lol

also take horse iron pills for blood loss related anemia which helps move bowels many times a day, don't have gas much anymore. 5|2|turned 50 recently |glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|23:02:17|01/04/2009|

...or palpitations, or whatever it's called!! It's a HORRIBLE feeling, and happens normally at night, and only after I actually lay down. I could be reading, propped up in bed and be fine until I lay down?~ then my heart feels like it's racing and about to pop out of my body!!! It will last for quite some time...say 15--20 minutes, or so? in other words, it's not something that happens for a few seconds.

I have a book on Menopause and do remember reading about this symptom in there, so I haven't (yet) mentioned it to my OB/gyn, but I will hopefully remember to do so on Jan. 15, next time I see her.

Just wanted to mention: i've been having VERY heavy flows, and more than one period per mo., and just chalked that up to menopausal symptoms but my GYN told me absolutely NOT....this is but one reason she scheduled me for that recent vaginal U/S, to see if I have fibroids, and I do have several. Should find out in 2 wks. what/if anything she plans to do about them.

Shelly 10|5|shelley, it's the period that never ends lol, you have indigestion too?|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|12:51:50|01/05/2009|

on the other hand my ob-gyn said it is normal and even though my body ignored the depo provera he told me not to take any other hormones so I guess I will never see this thing finished. 9|4|no to anxiety, yes to insomnia lol, sorry to forget that, and night sweats yuck!|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|12:48:50|01/05/2009|

I have to lift my hair off my neck, wash up, turn the pillow over, more than 1 time a night
yes, this means I do a lot of laundry, how could I forget? my pillows are ruined alot too.
maybe when something happens all the time you can take it for granted or even forget it? lol 11|4|I have a bit more insomnia than I used to...I will take some melatonin (very safe, natural, and cheap) about 15 mins before I go to bed when I think I might have a rough time sleeping....works pretty good, and no 'hang over' in the morning :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:37:31|01/05/2009|

made worse by adenomyosis, which causes an enlarged uterus, and lots of pain. I have been taking oral prometruim for the last year, and love it. I just switched this month to a cream form of progesterone, which is suppose to be more natural, and is not filtered as much through your liver. This has worked wonders for me. There are books out by a doctor Lee, that talk about using natural progesterone for menopause.

? 13|3|I would imagine they'd work as well as adding soy to your diet (I posted previously that my co-workers do that and say it has helped) :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|19:25:52|01/05/2009|
