I understand that tighter regulations have to take place to protect children...but am honestly asking myself how much lead could be in textile material? If this law passes I will be out of business among with a bunch of other small guy companys will be affected. I signed the petition today for this law to be fair to everyone involved in it.

You can read more about it here on this blog..this new law will affect everyone, wheather your a seller or a consumer.

**So if your church runs rummage sales they will no longer be able to do this, if you donate clothes to charitys they won't be able to use items that have not been tested first. You will not be able to sell products for children 12 yrs or younger at your garage sales, ebay or flea markets...it will be viewed as hazardous goods and illegal to sell...Many of us buy our clothes from salvation army, goodwill etc..they will not be alloweed to sell anything children related after the new year unless all clothing is product tested..common sense has gone out the window!

Over to my Dh who has a radio show on labor issues. I'm going to ask him to do a show on it soon. Would you consider being on the radio? It is a small indie station, but we get some attention at times. PLMK if you would talk to them and if they are willing to do it we can figure out the details.

TIA. Vanessa 3|1|I signed the petition also....seems like overkill....and I would venture to guess there were lobbyist from clothing and toy manufacturers behind this....more people are buying second-hand items due to the economy, and those independent/small businesses are competition for the big guys. :(|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|19:13:38|12/30/2008|

along the same lines as you were...more people are buying 2nd hand toys, and I have noticed this year more people buying hand made items..feel we are getting pushed from companys selling made in china toys, and clothing as well...us people that are just trying to make ends meet are now getting shoved..

all I am hoping for is now is that people will be spread the word and sign the petition and that this law will not be passed through on items american made, clothing and items made from yarn etc, as those items could not possibly have lead in them.

10|2|seem like no one knows for sure the impact it's going to have|Beaglesfly|lmllr77@aol.com|09:34:20|12/31/2008|

There's been a bit of discussion about it on ebay (on their discussion boards), but most seem to agree that no one really knows what the impact will be yet. Surprisingly, it's not a huge issue of discussion there, where you would think it would be.

I think that the general consensus is that it will be impossible to enforce so it will end up being not a big deal.
