28 0|0| how much do we donate as a group ? |tollman62|thebossatnight@yahoo.com|12:48:46|12/30/2008|

I was wondering how much as a group we donate I know lots of us give away any extras we get from deals. Alot of people are going thru rough times with the economy and job loss/layoffs now. I was wondering if as a group we could challenge ourselves to help out.Do you think we could set a total target and keep track to see how well we do. Say as a group $xxxxx dollars donated between 1/1/09 and 4/1/09. The winter months are tough on the food pantries everywhere and they will take pretty much anything. think vitamin shampoo at CVS this week has a mail in rebate on it so you get your money back and it adds to your quarterly ECB total when you donate it it becomes a tax deduction and would add $5 to our group total is this something we would like to try?

Cathie 2|1|I think it is a wonderful idea. I give a lot of my extra freebies, to people, I work with, who I know have as rough, as I do. So make care packages, before each of our layoff periods. Would that count?|dlpavitt|dlpavitt@att.net|14:45:40|12/30/2008|

I was also gonna say plse consider donating non food items such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, tampons, pads, toliet paper, bar soap or body wash, toothpaste, cough drops, chapstick, aspirin etc...as these items are mostly overlooked by people who donate, but these are all much needed items that people cannot buy with their food stamps..

I am working on using my b1g1f halls coupons I bought from someone on the coupon board, and will donate bags of those.
Also will start on the blistex deal at cvs tomarrow and will snag if lucky 20 blistex for $10...woo-w00!!

** I think it would be cool if we posted pics of the goodies we are donating, and noted where the items were donated to.
We can inspire eachother to give wheather it's a charity we know of, or perhaps if a rs member has a neighbor in need, we can ship lightweight items to help that neighbor out, and even help our rs family members if someone here is struggling to make ends meet..Whoever we help stranger or friend is great!!

Thanks to some very AWESOME board members (Kathy, Sandra and more...) who helped me get coupons... I just took this load to be donated to out local Food Bank. I'm not sure if this will count towards the challenge since it wasn't my money I was spending lol...

My dh is a Police Officer and his work and the local VFW teamed up to help out the food bank... We live in a small town, and in all I was given $400 to work with (they new I could stretch that money till it screamed lol)... I spoke with the director of the food bank and what she really needed was items that were kid friendly... she told me that the number of kids they are not trying to feed has gone up over 100% here in our area in the last year :(

Heres what I donated:

70 Boxes of various Kellogg’s cereals
75 Packs of Raisins
35 Boxes of Quaker Granola Bars
15 Motts Totts juice
20 Minute Maid instant rice
25 Barrilla Spaghetti Pasta
25 Ragu Spaghetti sauce
30 Beechnut toddler microwave meals
200 Green giant veggies (in cans, corn, peas, etc..)

All of the above cost me $265 AFTER coupons, I also wrote a check to the Foodbank for $135!!!

So total out of pocket was $400, but retail value is much higher!

Heres a picture of the back of my expedition:

our pantry has been closed for weeks and they even started giving away people's leftover food off plates at restaurants which I think is totally illegal never mind disgusting, we got a bitten on piece of cooked steak which I am definitely taking back to them. 22|2|That is awsome Isha !|spilleliz|spilleliz@gmail.com|13:19:24|01/03/2009|

I think it is great to help the needy -even if we ourselves are struggling to make ends meet there are ways to help people. Coupons are a great way to get things for practically nothing and stock up to donate to help others. 15|1|WOW what a start we need a higher total with super shoppers around !|tollman62|thebossatnight@yahoo.com|18:57:46|01/01/2009|
