For the last few years, I've wanted to try to form some new traditions around Christmas, but not sure what I'd like to do. For instance, after having a turkey for thanksgiving, I'd like to have something different on Christmas day. Also, I know my sister-in-law's family always has the seven fish for Christmas eve, which I think is so cool (except for eating octopus....lol).

On Christmas eve, we don't usually do much, and I'd like to change that. Christmas day we usually have a turkey and open the presents then....but I'd like to change our meal to something different. Hmmm, maybe we'll make Christmas cookies on Christmas eve afternoon, and go to a service in the evening. That's a start.

Anyways, would love to hear everyone's traditions to get some new ideas!

lauren 1|1|Lauren we have ham on Christmas and a boneless rib roast on New Years Day or we switch We used to go to mass at midnight|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|13:04:59|12/23/2008|

from the time I was a small child I have disliked pork and sauerkraut. Yet I think everyone in the county eats it on New Years Day. I would LOVE to change my entire family's tradition on that count, ha ha, as no matter who we visit, that is the darn meal. I do not make it (hubby does not eat it either) but wish I had a magic wand to get rid of that smell. Funny when I lived out of state for ten years, i never heard of other people eating it on that day.

We do not have a set meal for Christmas Day, just "too much" to eat. Let us know what you decide, we could always use ideas here at our home. 4|2|Shel we didn't eat it on Christmas but it is something Mom would make I haven't made|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|14:31:41|12/23/2008|

I get up about 5 am to put the ham in, then DH and I open our gifts. Christmas dinner is Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Jellied Cranberry and 2 veggies. We eat about 1 pm

New years eve we go to a party and when I get home from the party (Usually about 2 am) I put the pork and sauerkraut on low in the crockpot for New Years Day Dinner (We eat dinner at 2)

For the Past few Years I have been having Dinner at My House on Christmas Eve - I always make Lasanga , Baked Zita ,Meatballs and Sausages(This Meal is Requested Every year which stinks for me as I dont Like it ......lol) Every year the Group gets Bigger and Bigger. It used to be My Parents and My Inlaws and Dan and I. Some How this year Dinner Will be for 12 Adults and Dylan. After Dinner when everyone leaves We usually Open our Gifts from Family and Friends in NY. And then watch those Cheesey Christmas Shows that are on every year(The ones you know every word too .....lol) This year is even more Special since we Have Dylan(Who turned 7 months old today). So We will be starting new Traditions as well as adding to the old.

And Then Christmas Day we will get up early and have our Christmas Breakfast and Presents. Than we go to My Parents in the Afternoon for Presents(We will need a few hours on what they got for Dylan , They Went a little crazy this year - But He is there 1st and Only Grandchild) and stay for Dinner , Which is includes Everyone who was at my house for chistmas Eve(Even My in Laws) , Every year my mom makes Turkey(MY FAVORITE) and a HAm.

The day before christmas eve (today) I have friends come over with kids and we make and let the kids decorate chrismtas cookies. Which was fun :) Christmas eve we usually have a nice dinner although its always diffrent this year i think its going to be Lasagna and just hang out at the house and play cards or games or watch movies just family stuff. Christmas day we get up whenever the kids wake us up and open presents and make a big breakfast after the presents are open. We always have friends over for Christmas dinner (the ones who dont have family near them like we dont) and i make a big spread like for Thanksgiving.

Please leave feedback for me @

My husband's mother-in-law (no, not my mother....LOL) always makes kind of a breakfast pastry/cake, and they sing happy birthday to Jesus on Christmas day. We used to go to their house when we were first married (it's his late wife's parents), but haven't been there for years.

I was reminded of it when Elijah asked me this afternoon if we could get a cake for Jesus' birthday.

I really wanted to try a rib roast for Christmas day as I've never tried one, but the finances wouldn't allow for such a splurge. So we ended up getting a ham and some sweet potatoes. I liked tarasdream's menu (ham hock, rice, black eyed peas, etc), sounds delicious!

Ooh, I like the idea of pork roast and sauerkraut for New Years. Yum!

lauren 11|2|We always did the bday song for Jesus too when I was growing up :) My mom didnt put the Baby Jesus in the manger scene until Christmas morning, she'd make a bday cake and we'd light candles and sing happy bday. :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:37:01|12/23/2008|

"Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy." 13|1| We always have Chinese on New Years.....|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|22:05:49|12/23/2008|

That is the day we celebrate the Holidays with my mom, I usually make egg rolls, and we order out Chinese.

Christmas we alway have ham, the hashbrown potatoes with cheese, a couple veggies, snack trays, rolls, and pecan pie.

Christmas Eve is my oldest daughters birthday, we often have something like lasagna, and do her birthday during the day. Things are changing now that she is older we are having dinner at her house tomorrow.

Our kids alway exchange their presents to each other on Christmas Eve.

Christmas day, we always have family devotions before opening presents, and a breakfast casserole. This year is hard our youngest because we have went from a full noisy house to it just being the three of us. So I am trying to start some new traditions. I want to go sledding Christmas afternoon.

always came from our pet. We always said they had the BEST taste. They still come from Mackie, but now it is Angel Mac. This year he got got for Anthony a boy Cabbage Patch doll (that Amy wanted for him). My friends picked it up for me as they asked me if I needed any help shopping. When they saw this doll, they grabbed it, there were 2 boy dolls in the store, one named Romeo and the one they got for me is named Mac. I want to think it is a little sign that he is with us watching over us!
