You want the ones guaranteed by the government...I am sure they have different names now but I think they were SSL when I attended college. The are strict with when you have to pay them back but they do not require repayment to start until XXX months after graduation or you stop attending college. Just so you know, though, if you decide to take a semester off, etc you better make sure that does not meet the guideline for repayment. That happened to a girl I knew who took time off for having a baby.

Also, if you do not have kids or if you can possibly manage it, I would really really suggest trying to work and not take out the loan. I think it is pretty daunting to graduate and then know you have $xxx, xxx money hanging over your head. And with the job market being like it is, you may not get the job right away and if you do, then you probably have new wardrobe, new car, new housing, etc to be thinking about- all aobut the same type as your first loan payments start to come due.

Not to discourage you, but I am trying to be realistic about things that I experienced. Even if you take a loan for the first semester, and then work once you are in the routine of things. And I know everyone wants to get those perfect grades, I was that way, but honestly I have never had anyone ask me what grade I got for xx class, or what my GPA was. I could have easily juggled more including working if I had known all this now =)

Good luck and have fun!
I loved college =)
