I've been seeing ads for prepaid cell phones where the minutes roll over. Does anyone have any more info on this? I want to get a prepaid one for my mom, who wouldn't use it often (maybe to call a cab, or in an emergency), but I don't want her to lose minutes if they're not used within a certain amount of time. Also, other than the cost of the phone and the minutes, are there any other fees involved? Is one company/carrier better than another?
I appreciate all the help I can get on this!
Shelia

My minutes do not roll over. There are all kinds of different plans. I barely ever am on my cell anymore so I switched to a pre paid plan with verizon. Think I spent $50.00 on the phone at CVS. The plan I took was you get charged a $.99 fee everyday you make a call. So I use it alot in that day so theres only one charge.

Hope that makes sense. Ex- Monday I call my sister in law they charge me $.99 plus the minutes I talk. But then I can call 3 other people in the same day and don't have the $.99 just the minutes. But verizon to verizon is free for me. I usually put the minimum amount on my phone $15.00 a month. Gives me like 3 hours of talking-verizon to verizon doesn't get taken off there. So I usually lose some minutes every month. but it is much cheaper for me than carrying a reg plan.

You have to really search around because they all vary.I ended up with mine at the last minute. Lost my reg cell and was going away and had to have one. Got it at CVS- took 12 hours to activate but have had no problems since.

One thing I like is when my minutes are running out the phone texts you to warn you. You just punch a couple numbers in to go to the billing and they keep you card on file.

Hope that helps!

I have used Tracfone's service for about six years now. It is around $100 a year (365 day card) and the minutes do roll over. You always get a bunch of free minutes when you sign up for the service. You can call their 800 # or go to www.tracfone.com to order. If you already have a cell phone and want to keep the same # that can be done. Hope this helps, I have been very pleased with the service.

Be sure you get the 365 day card, it is cheaper in the long run.
