..today, finally had my pap smear and the paperwk. so I can schedule a mammogram in town rather than go all the way back to that place (1 hr.round-trip away!).
Anyway, after describing all my symptoms to the dr., she said we should do a vaginal ultrasound to check my ovaries as it *could* be ovarian cancer, and we need to rule that out. Also she's going to check to see if I have fibroids because my cycles have been screwy....I've had more than one a month at least 2-3 times, so far. I was chalking that up to Menopausal symptoms and she said absolutely not~~~that I should not be having more than one cycle per month and that we need to find out what is going on. My flow is also very heavy and she said we'll look into that as well.
She said I have so many issues going on that I'll need a few appts. with her. Please pray that they don't find anything serious w/the ultrasound, which is scheduled for 12/29 (my 19 yr. old son's b-day!!).

before..that in and of itself is not what scares me. It's the fact that my OB/GYN didn't immediately dispel my fears about Ovarian Cancer; she feels the test is needed to get to the bottom of whatever is going on with me. My step-sister lost her life to Ovarian Cancer when she was younger than me...in her 40's, so I have that in the back of my head, I admit.

I have had a lot of these problems for several years, went through the ultrasounds, and several biopsies. They really try to be very careful to watch for cancer which is good, so don't let the tests scare you. I started on a natural form of hormone therapy, and that has worked great for me, this last year.

..the CA125 test isn't *normally* (?) done as a way of testing as it can provide false negatives. My understanding is that this test is done more AFTER diagnosis, maybe to see where things stand at a particular point in time?
