7 0|0|A great idea for this Christmas |GarnetteB|blanton19@hotmail.com|06:07:44|12/08/2008|
When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to
A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001
This is where so many of our service men and women will be spending their holiday season.
If we pass this on and everyone sends at least one card, think of how many cards these very special people who have sacrificed so much would get.
And a personal “Thank You”, would be great!
1|1|According to snopes.... USPS will NOT accept these :(|cldt67|cindy123@zoominternet.net|10:17:25|12/08/2008|
http://www.snopes.com/politics/christmas/walterreed.asp 2|1|I got all mine back last year and i wasted a book of stamps and 20 cards the kids were heart broken after they worked so long in writing a small note and signing names |lydzkydz|lydzmcss@yahoo.com|16:16:25|12/08/2008|

Something cool that Xerox is doing
If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq .. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them... 4|2|Lydia I'm glad honestly they protect the soldiers that much... esp. with all the terrorists threats|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|17:13:52|12/08/2008|
"Women should not have children after 35. Thirty-five children are enough." - anonymous (Only 28 to GO!) 5|3|well then things like the addy and such shouldn't be online for ppl to waste their money and stamps to try to do nice things for someone else |lydzkydz|lydzmcss@yahoo.com|19:06:06|12/08/2008|
just to get them returned
i am sure with security they could try to figure out if the items were safe for the soldiers
it was just very disheartening :(

THANKS!! 6|4|No, there is a new address for this....|aloha2u|alohamillion@yahoo.com|19:32:40|12/08/2008|
The Red Cross is sponsoring it. The reason the old address at Walter Reed returned the letters is bc they were not staffed to receive the thousands that came in.
PLEASE send them to the Red Cross instead of being discouraged. You can also send them to the following places if you don't want to use a stamp:
your local church for shut ins, lonely elderly, retired clergy, to distribute during rounds/ visits at hospitals
your local nursing homes
your local homeless shelter
You may also find homes for your holiday greetings at:
any soldier dot com= also a great place to send out your travel sized or unwanted stockpile items
books for soldiers dot com= you do not have to be a registered volunteer to post items here
your state's Vet's home/ Vet's hospital/ Military base- Amvets- Deployed Soldiers support group, etc. We have an active group called Iowa's bravest in my state- I am sure your state has similar groups.
I will find the correct Red Cross address and post it here.
Merry Christmas!
Stacey =)

Add'l info/ instructions/ requirements are listed at the above link so be sure to visit there prior to mailing out so you know you did it correctly.
****They are all inspected to keep out any negative threats/ demoralizing content, so help the volunteers by mailing early so there is not a rush that keeps cards from reaching our soldiers.
